Big Bear Choppers Out Of Business. Update.

On Thursday December 8, I received a call from Mona Alsop, not intending, as I requested 10 days ago, to give me a full statement on the Big Bear Choppers situation,  but asking that we remove her phone number listed in “comments” by a person who could be an ex collaborator.

Of course, during this phone conversation, I asked her the questions to which all BC’s clients/vendors and the overall industry would like answers. To almost each of them Mona replied that BBC’s lawyer requested that her and Kevin make no statement. The only pieces of information I could get was: 1- that BBC tried hard to keep the business afloat, hoping for an investor to step in. 2- that the company will file for bankruptcy. 3- that Kevin would have contacted all clients who have legitimate issues regarding deposits or bikes paid in full and never delivered.

Mona refused to clearly answer my questions regarding: the foreclosure process by 2 of BBC’s lenders; if one way or the other BBC intended to complete the bikes ordered, paid and never delivered; if it is true that they already moved equipment/bikes/inventory to another location and which one; if BBC has the intention to operate under bankruptcy or if her and Kevin intend to start a new bike building business.

Before ending the conversation, and although I obviously respect the fact that their attorney doesn’t want BBC owners to talk to the press, I suggested again that it would be better for all those concerned by BBC demise that she provides me with a written official statement regarding her and Kevin’s intentions, and that I will publish it as is. For this purpose, a deadline of Friday evening December 9 was agreed between us but I still didn’t receive any statement as of today Sunday December 12, 2011.

Since I published my 1st article about BBC suspending its operations, I have received calls and emails from some of BBC’s clients who state that they have paid in full or given deposits, some 11 months ago, for custom bikes never started or delivered. Some have commented in writing in my website about their anger and frustration with the Alsop’s and of their impossibility to communicate with them. A well informed source formally working at BBC told me that deposits were still taken less than one month ago and that collaborators since a long time have tried to discourage Kevin & Mona Alsop to continue such practice when there was no hope that bikes could be completed. It seems that the number of bikes ordered by clients located in the US and abroad and never delivered would be quite high. I was also told by another source that inventory and tools would have been moved to an undisclosed location. I was unable to verify all these allegations, and as I mentioned above, I got only non-answers from Mona  Alsop when I asked her to confirm or deny.

What is known for sure is that the 2 loans given to BBC by First Mountain Bank (147,000) and in second rank last April by Big bear Lake City Small Business Administration ($100,000) are delinquent with apparently a due principal higher than the original amounts of these loans. Apparently they were given on the basis of BBC’s bike orders. Such process is typical of what is requested by banks and non-fraudulent if money received for these orders is not already spent, partially or in full, for payment of general bills like salaries, rent, contractors not related to the cost of building each specific ordered motorcycle, etc. Money received to build motorcycles are trust funds belonging to clients. Some, in the industry, and although it’s not a legal requirement, cautiously put deposits in separate bank accounts to avoid commingling the company’s and clients’ funds, the right way to avoid legal trouble and the risk of felony charges if there is a legal breach of contract and the builder is out of money to start or complete a motorcycle. For a company, to deliver parts or a partly completed motorcycle for the corresponding deposit amount is also a breach of contract because the client ordered a completed motorcycle, not parts, nor a partial motorcycle because it’s still not a motorcycle until fully completed and road worthy. Now, clients I talked to are convinced that their money was illegally spent by BBC only for the purpose of  keeping the company afloat a longer time.

My impression, and the one of a majority of people professionally close to BBC as former collaborators, vendors and clients, is that Kevin and Mona Alsop tried too long and too hard, and by all means, to maintain a business already showing signs of serious trouble at least 2 years ago. Is it terrible business judgment, greed gone too far, ego of its managers, denial of economic realities or a combination of all this that pushed the Alsops to continue taking deposits while they apparently knew very well that they didn’t have the human resources, the equipment and no more clients’ money to build their motorcycles? I don’t know for sure, but I think that if all allegations are confirmed it was for the Alspo’s taking huge professional and personal legal risks with possible very serious and long term consequences for both of them. From my point of view, it’s never worth it. (to follow)

If they move corporate assets to an undisclosed location just before filing for bankruptcy, it will have very serious consequences. Just saying.

Feel for their customers this is a familiar story of greedy people taking advantage of a surge in the bike building business and trusting people taking it in the ass.

Cyril in your article you are way too nice with these people. It looks like the industry is not too sorry for them. There must be 1 good reason, or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5, etc

  5. 5 zyon Dec 11th, 2011 at 9:41 am

Yah, this is crap! If they were taking deposits with full knowing that they could not fill orders, both of them and anyone else in the company that knew this should sit in jail for a long time. Its people like this that give custom builders of any product a bad name.

Least when OCC was going through their money issues, customers still got their bikes…. I almost bought a BBC (used but still) and I’m very glad I don’t have one of these in my garage right now. Think about how low the resale value will be!

Sounds like they are in deep shit.

I for one hope that the monies taken for deposits are found taken by fraudulent means with intent to defraud, that the monies borrowed were ill gotten and spent for other uses than loaned for, and that they are found guilty for bankruptcy fraud.

From what I read and have been told, they willfully did what they were doing all along and had no intent for the monies taken as deposits and borrowed other than to support their lifestyles with the possibility of fulfilling orders as they could as the economy improves.

Bernie Madoff was sorry too! Look at Jodie Foster’s dad taking the deposits for houses and now going to jail…same thing. Same thing different goods. If they do the crime, make them do the time.

Well can’t say that I didn’t warn folks about this, I been saying it for over two years now! Again the Alsops have no honor and never did! Just look at the way the recall was handled and how they tried every trick in the book to keep that information from becoming public in the first place and by so doing putting thousands of lives at risk just to cover their own @sses! Then trying to insist that it was the owners fault and not their $hitty manufacturing with no beveling on the frame tubes and only poorly done surface welds! Anyone that would do such a thing shows absolutely no regard for the safety and welfare of their customers lives and the lives of those around them and obviously can’t be trusted with anything whatsoever much less your money! Here’s hopping that each of them (and anyone else that helped them in their deception) get multiple felony charges that rack up about 25 years each in federal prison!
Hey Kev, say hello to Bubba your new cellmate and ask him nicely to please use the KY!

Where did they hide the money they made from the other bikes? Will the state take their house in Hawaii? The cash is somewhere they just want to be able to walk away and let the general public pay their bill. Deport his ass back to wherever he came from. They knocked off a lot of good law abiding citizens products with no regard for ethics. All they are is thieves! Send the both of them to JAIL!
Mark my words! Bourget is working on new bikes he Will knock off Confederates style of bike. It’s in his nature to knock off products too.

No offense but I can’t believe anyone would consider buying a new BBC within the last 2 or 3 years, especially since the frame recall which was handled so poorly. Buyer beware especially in such a bad economy. It would be one thing to buy a new complete bike from their showroom or a dealer, but to give them a deposit towards a new build? My condolences but that was a bad decision that has been widely known for years now. Good luck, I hope you get your money back.

Through the grape vine, they had or still have a house there. Think about it they made 21 MILLION a year. That’s a ton of cash! They have it somewhere. Look at SR. At occ he has made over 100 million in his pocket, but he’s giving up his mega million dollar building because it’s not worth as much as he signed for. He has the money to build another building for less out of his own pocket though. The Alsops want to be able to walk away with just a bankruptcy to their business name. Bankruptcy is a very big deal for most, but for some it’s a way to leave someone else holding the bag on their bills. Theyve been getting their ducks in a row and very soon they will walk away to somewhere out of view and enjoy the money they stashed. So to the Alsops and Paul SR. I say F@CK YOU pay your bills ,you LOW LIFE MFers

Did any of you see the Bloomberg Mentor show with Big Bear Choppers. It was weird. I saw this episode just two weeks ago and It must have been filmed eight months before. They showed bikes half completed and said were are trying to complete this bike, but no employees were working on it. It fact I saw no employess other than the Aslops. Just an empty warehouse. They keot telling thier mentor they just needed half a million to get things back on track!! You would think that they would have at least hired some help for those days of shooting, but they could couldn’t even think that though. They said on air that they had money and had not talked to their customers for months on bikes that were months overdue!!! After seeing that show I’m not surprised to read this entry by Cyril.

On a positive note… There were many companies who before they closed their doors, paid their employees, filled their customers orders, paid their employee taxes, paid the state, paid the IRS, paid their vendors, and all corporate bills. Sold their properties or when their lease ended moved out, leaving no one looking for any money from them. These people showed ETHICS when going out of business. To these people,we should be proud of the integrity they showed when times were hardest and stress levels were highest. They were able to maintain character during a difficult time. NOT ALL companies that closed their doors displade unethical behavior. There are a few companies which I miss being able to buy there products because they are not around anymore, but at least they were HONEST and did not STEAL from me.

  22. 22 zyon Dec 11th, 2011 at 8:33 pm

MIke Out… before you condemn Sr, check your facts. He came to an agreement with the bank to refinance the loan on the building and due to this, he will keep his current facility.

Also, bankruptcy does not mean you leave someone else holding the bag. It’s a way of business and restructuring debts and assets. trump has done it several times and he is considered a financial mastermind to many.

  23. 23 mdsphoto Dec 11th, 2011 at 9:20 pm

No one will ever see a dime from these two and it is doubtful they will ever do any time in jail. Even if those people who lost money sue them and win, winning and collecting are two different things! I dealt with a piece of shit builder in Orlando who took my deposit and a lot of others money and closed up shop. Filed a law suit and won, but I was behind hundreds of other creditors that wanted their money and never got a dime. He was brought up on plenty of charges, but he did no time.

Im surprised they managed to stay open this long, next time you have her on the phone ask them about putting used motors and used transmissions in bikes, getting a buy back from dealer that were over 3 years old and putting new vin numbers on them and selling them as that current years model. when they put the x-wedge in the first athena and sled models and bending the seat post with a hammer because it hit the starter. with them there was no quality control the more bikes that went out and the faster they went out the quicker they got paid.

For BBC, 70 bikes would mean for sure more than 1 year of work,. 1 year of deposits going where? Not going only to pay rent, utilities or salaries (to pay people not building?) So, where went the money? If it went in Alsop’s pockets, big trouble ahead.

    LIGHTENING LARRY…….
You filed a bogus lawsuit over a bike YOU destroyed.
Strokers Dallas ordered 20 bikes to be built and shipped. Kevin built them, shipped them and dude never paid.

Well, check it out. He is just one of many. Rick sent all the bikes back without a word.
How far would you be able to go with the crap if you were in his shoes?
    Think about it.
Kevin had an awesome plan, and his bikes were the best customs out there.
There comes a time when enough is a f in nuff, and there is no way to win or even get ahead anymore.
    Then what happens?
All I am saying is Kevin did not set out to intentionally “rip people off” as everyone is saying.
Sometimes there is no good way to handle crap. He tried.

  44. 44 BILLY Dec 12th, 2011 at 10:26 am

Just one thing… the Alsops have stolen more than customer deposits.. i know for a fact that they took $35k from two different people at least six months ago… they also took about $34k from an old man about eleven months ago…plus they took $56k from another unsuspecting customer…that adds up to more than $160k…those weren’t deposit, but the full cost of the bikes… these customers were told that if they put up the full fare that their bikes would be built in 12 weeks or sooner than the normal period of time that it took to build a bike … that amount of money plus other money that i don’t know about and the deposit money adds up to a lot of accountable money with no bikes to show for it…so where is it the money? We all know where… there is just so little we can do about it…. none of us who were taken in by these people who have some sort of sick sense of entitlement will ever see any of that money or procuct… the best we can hope for is that they will never be allowed to go back into business and do this to someone else…

    Ariel Dakin,

Get this straight ASSHOLE that POS frame was designed and built bad! End of story and there are MOUNTAINS of proof to that fact! Not only do I have a certified failure analysis on it but there were others that did x-rays on the welds that show the truth as well. Even BBC’s own failure analysis of the welds showed that! Kevin tried to keep all that from the public but the NHTSA made them deal with it but even then they still tried to continue the lie that it was somehow the owners fault! Do you know how many neck failures actually happened? Well I do and so does the NHTSA, last count there was 6 neck failures! Are all those other neck failures bogus too! You don’t know your ass from a hole in the ground! I’ll even give you the opportunity to come to my house and see that frame up close and personal and make the determination for yourself! So put up or shut the hell up and that goes for anyone else that thinks those welds and the tube prep were done right! Actually I’ve seen their frames up close and the welds aren’t as much the issue as just plain poor design. I know I wouldn’t use one of their frames on a build. The way the recall was handled seemed to be a huge issue with their customer base too and that bad PR tends to spread fast. I’m sure there are issues behind the scenes too as there are with any story. Just another black eye on an already battered industry.

Hey Ariel, your information is WRONG & it pisses me off that you brought my name up in all this BS. At one time I was a BBC dealer, but I saw this day coming 3 years ago, at which time I terminated my dealership with BBC & we have to do that thru the State of Texas & GE Financial. There are many reasons that I terminated my BBC dealership that I won’t go into here. I pride myself on being a good business man & terminating my BBC dealership was a good business decision. In the state of Texas, when a dealership is terminated then the manufacturer must buy back any current inventory on the dealer’s floor plan & the manufacturer knows that when they enter into a contract with a dealer in the great state of Texas. I went through the proper channels through the state of Texas & GE Financial which held the paper on those bikes & it was 9 bikes not 20. Ya know, I may not be the smartest kid in this Special Ed class, but I knew this day was coming & I didn’t want to get stuck with bikes on my floor plan that I couldn’t give a way! Who ever you are Ariel, please leave me out of this. My business & personal relationship with BBC is none of your dang business! I wrote a bunch more stuff on here, but after reading it & cooling off a little, I decided to delete most of it, but at least I feel a little better now! Good luck to everyone caught up in this very unfortunate situation, it’s very, very sad for our very proud industry. Mark my word, this industry will rebound & be better than ever. My intent is to leave this industry better than I found it & I hope that’s your intent as well.
    Good luck to all involved.

I have the feeling that when everything is discovered, the BBC story may be the worst heard in a long time in the custom motorcycle industry. I hope not, but I am afraid it will damage builders’ reputation. Very sad if it’s the case because there are many honest people working hard, always thinking in the best interest of their clients..

Like I said Ariel if you’re so sure of what you say then come to my house yourself and see it first hand. I’ll show you the frame the failure analysis and all the documentation, that offer goes out to any and all doubters.
Never ever have I ever pulled a wheelie on any bike I have ever owned and just where are you hearing that from, Kevin maybe as some kind of excuse to divert attention away from his shitty manufacturing and design practices? How the hell would you or anyone else for that matter that doesn’t even know me be stupid enough to say something like that! I have likely been riding longer than you have been alive, you don’t know me or anything about me. You’re just a regurgitation of false information and not even that good at it. So again put up or shut up, if your gonna call me a liar then come on up and do so to my face, you live in California obviously and San Jose is not the far from SoCal so come on up! I have proof of what I say, do you????

Asa part time Big Bear resident for many years, I watched the rise (and fall?) of Big Bear Choppers from the beginning. Thier building has looked pretty sad for months now. Nobody there and only a bike or 2 in the window. I don’t know the Alsop’s personally but there was a lot of good local people working there who had a real passion for the bikes and the business. Too bad, sounds like its all over for them now. Real concerned about the recent stories of taking deposits with no chance of building the bikes and hiding assets and all. Who do the Alsops think they are? Some kind of Wall Street types who can steal billions and never get in trouble?

  64. 64 dowhat youlove Dec 12th, 2011 at 12:30 pm

Rick Fairless is the bomb! He has and will always do it right! The way our industry should be run. Frank Kaisler, an industry legend, introduced me to Rick way back when I just cut my teeth in this world…we need to get back to this world! BTW, someone left a dead pig in Mona and Kevin’s front yard last week. Says a lot….. Check out the local Big Bear police reports.

After the bank closed Big Dog Motorcycles, the writing was on the wall for other manufacturers of custom or semi-custom V-Twins. Like Sheldon, Kevin tried to keep that ship afloat as long as he could. Unfortunately, when businesses fail, the folks running the business are viewed as “bad guys” regardless much they lost trying to make it a success.

Unfortunately, BDMPP recently laid off John Nasi and Michaell Simmons. Both were top notch individuals who tried to make BDMPP a success.

With help from a lot of guys like Rick Fairless, this industry will turn around. I just hope some to the guys who built the industry are around to enjoy the recovery.

  71. 71 DMV Dec 12th, 2011 at 1:03 pm

Its too bad manufacturers don’t have the same legal protection as dealers do when it comes to back pedaling bad business decisions. Rick mentioned it. When a dealer decides he can’t sell a product, the state requires the manufacturer buy everything back. That includes bikes, parts, apparel. Everything. And in some states they have to pay the dealers interest, shipping charges, and building lease. Market collapses, manufacturers have to buy everything back. Dealers either close their doors and go back to their day job or try to sell service and parts. Manufacturers end up with all the product that didn’t sell and end up filing bankruptcy. Why this surprises everyone amazes me. Get ready because the rest of the manufacturers are suffering and now we’re down to the group that is “too big to fail”.

What a bunch of vultures, circling for your piece of the kill like bloody carnivores. How many of you good people praised their work, applauded their success and were impressed by their product.
Now, with limited information and one sided beat up stories, you slaughter these two people who are probably totally devastated by this regrettable and sad turn of events.
Everybody loses when a company goes under, there are no winners. Life is a risk, business is an even bigger risk and with hindsight I bet you will see these two people aren’t the arseholes you all make them out to be.
Its awesome to see you people who are so quick to get on the success bandwagon can so quickly turn into back stabbing, slandering, monsters with an eat-your-own children enthusiasm, all from the safety and comfort of your computer screens.
Back in the day when one of my brothers was in trouble, we all banded together and helped him out. What you are doing is exactly the opposite of that. What an uninspiring pack of people you are. This list of bleating broken hearted naysayers just proves that apathy, despondency and failure is alive and well in your once great nation. Lift yourselves above the grovelling and do some good you fuckers.

  89. 89 The Supreme Team Dec 12th, 2011 at 8:09 pm

Olfart…did you miss the part where they essentially stole money from people for bikes that will never be built?
Having been on the receiving end of this type of screwing from the previous owner of Supreme to the tune/cost of about 9 BBC choppers (if they’d actually been completed), I have nothing but contempt for people that do this kind of screwing. We survived by working our ass off doing damage control and standing behind our good word….BBC DID NOT.

Instead they’re off hiding and wondering where to go. They were savvy enough to ask for help on the Bloomberg bit, but not sensible enough to realize they were much deeper in it…to the point of no return.

That certainly doesn’t warrant taking from others in good faith, then bending them over.
I’ve never met Kevin or Mona, because I didn’t need to…heard enough about them from the previous owner and industry folks, and all the shenanigans that transpired with his machining and how he “acquired” his machinists…etc.

I don’t wish failure on anybody, but when you start STEALING from others….karma comes full circle.

    “You Mileage May Vary….”

    Facts
    - I ordered a GTX from them after Sturgis 2010.
    - We settled on a fair price (way below list…sorry dealers, but I figure I can lift the silence now)
    - Delivered right around 14 weeks to my door on the East Coast
    - Had some problems with some drive train parts…BBC FEDExed replacements free
    - Kevin called me say they had put the wrong speedo on…they shipped me a new one. Again Free.
    - Headers cracked–exhaust misaligned. BBC Shipped me new ones. Yet again Free.
    - I did all the maintenance and diagnosis myself

    What I believe;
    - We sometimes believe our own hype and think we can make a bad situation work. Anybody divorced out there?
    - Ain’t no excuse for taking and keeping peoples cash when you can’t deliver…but you can fix that by returning the money or doing the time in the Pen.
    - I got the LAST GTX!!!!! (At least it seems that way…)

  94. 94 Stephen Dec 12th, 2011 at 9:47 pm

Hmm. If they have money or assets hidden somewhere it would not be in the US. If they were smart they would hide it in Australia or New Zealand. Uncle Sam can’t get ‘em down under.

Here’s something you probably don’t know, Kevin is probably just a US resident and still has his Aussie passport so he can piss off any time. Why would I say this? I am an Aussie with a green card, I lived in CA for many happy years but there was no way I’d ever give up my Australian citizenship and I’ve never met an Aussie who would. My money is on him coming back to OZ and starting over, probably in Sydney or within easy driving distance.

As far as people standing by their word, I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again because they are true to their word. You can take the word of Supreme Team to the bank. They also go the extra mile to make sure everything is right.

  95. 95 JERRY Dec 12th, 2011 at 9:50 pm

Well i don’t know what to say about all this.. my name is Jerry Waters and as have said before,, i am one of the people who paid up front for my bike… what a genius i am…. after 11 months of many excuses and lies i decided to take matters into my own hands….i went up to big bear and took my bike… or actually about a half of bike… i considered my self lucky that i got that much of a motorcycle…i got a lot more than a lot of people got..i took it to another builder and he told me it had a lot of wrong parts on it that simply won’t work… I thought i savaged about $15k worth of motorcycle, but i am still out about $20k… pretty tough on a man who lives on social security… so not only did they steal my money, but they did not even have the integrity to build what they built with the right parts….. i think the only reason they started my build is to have something to show on the television show presented by Bloomberg..oh well people… for some reason i am not even mad… i am just glad it is all over so i can move on…. they have to live with what they did to people, not me….i wish all of you well that are in the same boat…. Jerry….

  96. 96 Mark Dec 12th, 2011 at 9:57 pm

    Two things…

    1) Regarding BBC. I watched the show on Bloomberg where Kevin said they were doing $18 million a year. He also said, if I remember right, that they need to sell 5 bikes a month to break even. That means they need around $200k a month to cover their bills. Now that may sound like a ton of money to us on here, but you can’t build an $18MM/yr business without spending big money. Rent, insurance, salaries, machine payments, etc. So when you drop below the threshold of 5 bikes/month and you don’t have enough profit to make ends meet.. it’s easy to say “well that’s when you go BK and close up shop”. But the owners always think everything will turn around, so they spend the last deposit to keep the doors open, but then they don’t have the money to buy the parts to make the bike… but then the next deposit comes, so they can build the bike for a guy from months ago, and keep the doors open longer.

I know it sounds like a scumbag thing to do, but most businesses are run this way – they don’t take the money and put it in a box and only spend it when they are buying something for that customers bike.

Now, if Kevin and Mona took money when they knew they were not going to be able to deliver anything – well, that’s shitty.

I will also add that I never did business with Kevin personally. I met him at the V-Twin show and he came over to me like an arrogant asshole, so I passed on by.

    2) I’ve also met Rick Fairless and he is a class act all the way from what I have seen and know. Haven’t done any business with him yet but I would in a heartbeat. He is a businessman first and foremost, and for a businessman like myself, nothing could make me happier – I like dealing with businessmen.

    QUESTION:

Given the amount of bad publicity & obvious notoriety, why were there SO MANY people still putting in deposits, & worse, paying full amounts on BBC bikes? A month before this week was the last deposit? Anyone tell me why???

Second question: NOT to defend anyone, but do these customers bear (no pun) ANY responsibility to their impending financial loss?

  106. 106 Wolf Chop Dec 13th, 2011 at 9:30 am

Apparently because it was promised to them to get their bikes very fast (before the ones ordered by other clients way before) if they paid in full in advance. It seems that non US buyers were also required to pay in full. Only BBC has responsibility for the loss of funds because these funds could not be used by BBC for other than building these bikes.

  107. 107 Ariel Dakin Dec 13th, 2011 at 9:55 am

It would appear to me that Boss Hawgs business is really slow, and he is hoping to benefit from someones loss. Hummmmm Isn’t that what everyone one is complaining about here?
Did YOU lose money Boss Hawg? Well then, you dont have a dog in this fight.

To the customers who sent 38,000 up front, AFTER hearing the news of BBC’s struggle. DUHHHH!!!
And to the people who are wondering when the money may be returned, I am sure any assets, if there are any, are frozen until this is resolved.

Also, if a dealer orders 5, 10, 20 bikes per contract, and those bikes built and paid for by BBC. Then these bikes are sent back to factory, isn’t that also similar?

In this economy any one of us could be next on the chopping block. Maybe think about that for a minute.

    Evil breeds evil.

  108. 108 FrankenBagger Dec 13th, 2011 at 10:50 am

You are an idiot. AND you have made a fool of yourself acting like a grade school hall monitor.

  109. 109 Woody Dec 13th, 2011 at 12:11 pm

Shameful that folks would attempt to blame customers left out in the cold for the actions of the merchant that left them there. If any of you folks ever order something and get sent a brick then I guess it’s your own fault? Snakeoil asked, “Given the amount of bad publicity & obvious notoriety, why were there SO MANY people still putting in deposits, & worse, paying full amounts on BBC bikes?” and I would guess maybe it’s because there wasn’t neccesarily all that info out there for some folks to know. I’m sure it wasn’t mentioned on the Big Bear website ;) and the company had been around long enough that some folks would possibly have though that indicated solvency. Apparently the Bloomberg show producers were not aware of the apparent “real situation” either?

Funny you should mention conjectures…… perhaps you need to go back and read your posts.

Glad business is so good for you. Better hang on to your panties. EVERYONE in this industry is in for a hell of a bumpy ride. Bashing and kicking people when they are down will not improve the situation. Maybe you could be the bigger man, and offer some help to BBCs customers who feel left in the cold. HAS ANYONE CONSIDERED THAT?

Kevin, Mona and their children are suffering now. Does that make anyone who lost money get that money back? It is just pathetic to me.

I wonder how “sorry” or how much sympathy you would have for poor Kevin, Mona and family if Kevin and Mona had committed a bank robbery or worse yet they were some fat cat wall streeters? Not so much huh? In case you haven’t been paying attention here, these people have defrauded thousands upon thousands of dollars out of well intended customers. These people are thieves and liars just as much so as if they had robbed a bank. The only exception is that the bank robbers will have the balls to come full face forward into the bank and declare it is a robbery unlike these snakes. I have no doubt that the FBI Field Office in LA is looking at this matter with great glee!

Boss and everyone else, who have had the misfortune of being screwed by these snakes, stay on their ass and don’t let up! Today is the day that what goes around comes around!

  119. 119 Ariel Dakin Dec 13th, 2011 at 3:20 pm

    @GetYoHeadOutofYoAss

You don’t know what I may have lost.
How do you know I am not a customer or a dealer?

I can see with my 2 eyes that Kevin tried to make this work to the bitter end. It was his dream, and a good one I might add. My Athena is the coolest, most well built custom bike I have ever owned.

I have EMPATHY for the man and his family. I FEEL his pain for this loss of his dream. I also feel for the people who have lost money, especially these days when there is so little money to be lost. But none of that is an excuse for the wickedness.

NONE OF US KNOW the whole story.

There were many circumstances that led to this end, and anyone in business knows how this can happen, or at least they should. It is like a house of cards.

Its the vicious, negativity that disturbs me so. (dead pigs in their front yard…come on) (colleagues kicking him when he is down)

If this is how people are going to handle it when the next bike builder falls, then we are all in trouble.

It really sucks, how this all went down, and maybe he should have gotten out sooner. I do applaud him for being tenacious and not just quitting, but he will pay the price for that decision, but it was HIS decision.

Attacking Kevin and his family is just UNAMERICAN and UNBIKER.

Where would we be if we were all gutless and unwilling to take a risk? This country was built by peoples ingenuity and brawn.

We have to stick together and pull ourselves out of the muck. Otherwise it is all a lost cause.

Perhaps there are some shops that could benefit from the displaced BBC customers. Maybe WE could turn this around a little instead of exasperating the B.S. Sounds like a win win to me.

  121. 121 The Supreme Team Dec 13th, 2011 at 3:40 pm

I think at this point, anybody still posting in reply other than their first post, has pretty much seen/read, all that can be said about BBC going out of business. Whether you “empathize” with them, hate them, give a rats ass about them…whatever…they’re gone, they’ve screwed some people, they’ve OBVIOUSLY pissed a lot of people off, and nobody cares either way, except that they should pay back folks that they’ve screwed and be prosecuted if they have not. Having a pissing contest between one another and trying to win the swinging dick contest by cutting another guy down isn’t going to fix BBC’s mess….doesn’t matter how you look at it, or which side you are on…they got what they deserved by not making smart moves.

The “supposed” sista and brotha…nobody cares what you think of anybody on here. It’s foolish to come on here and defend somebody who has obviously pushed the wrong buttons across the industry and has screwed common folks out of their hard earned money. Nobody’s calling Aussies bad folks…just Kevin…don’t take it too personal. Aussies are some of my best customers and awful nice people to deal with and bullshit with…but Kevin’s pissed off the wrong people and it was an easy stab…take it for what it’s worth and nothing more.

Again, nobody wants to see any honest, hard working company fail in this industry, but when you screw folks, everybody’s happy to see you go.

Having done business with Big Bear Choppers for a year or so, i think I can voice an accurate opinion about this lousy situation… it is simple, they are quilty of bilking, fraud, misrepresentation of funds, misappropriation of funds, as well as breach of contract and employing a ponzi scheme and using faulty parts… they now think they are going to hide under the guise of bankruptcy… not according to my lawyer…i dealt with them for a long time and Kevin and Mono had there employees lie to me everyday… Kevin and Mono spoke to me once in a year… then they lied to me to… no remorse about the situation, no apology… nothing….there customer service is non existent… they chose not to do customer builds long before they were going broke…. all in all it was the worst year of my life.. I walked away with nothing and i am glad it is over… i no longer have to live lie to lie…. i don’t see how they won’t go to jail except for the fact that people who break the law seem to know how to use it to their advantage… the only thing i have going for me is that there are just to many people out there with the same story and the same outcome…. by the way Boss Hawg… Big Bear never had a paint shop…. they had someone else do it… he is not only a really good painter, but he is a really good guy… Kevin stuck him to for about $20k to.. he also stuck a local Big Bear attorney for about $48k.. seems to have been his mo for a long time…

I love both my bikes and have had no problems. I read about the bad weld issue and went ahead with the purchase as i felt the problem had been fixed. All is good here but i do have to say that i feel its bad karma to take the money and run if that is indeed the case. I hope anyone who lost money with bbc gets it back even if Arien feels these people had it coming. I also hope that if they come back building bike that they have a better business sense about things. It sure is easy to get caught up in the limelight. Jodie Foster’s estranged dad sentenced in scam

    AP – Fri, Dec 9, 2011

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A judge has sentenced Jodie Foster’s estranged father to five years in a Los Angeles jail for bilking more than $100,000 from poor and elderly people in a home-building scheme.

The 89-year-old Foster was convicted of taking $5,000 each from people for whom he promised to build affordable homes made from cargo containers. The units were never built, and prosecutors said he lied to clients.

Mont. man gets 25 years prison for investment scam

    AP – Tuesday, Dec13, 2011

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Montana man convicted of running an investment scam on the Internet was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years in federal prison and ordered to pay $13.2 million in restitution to more than 1,400 investors.

U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks in Reno told Rick Young, 52, of Lewistown, that the fraud carried out by his Nevada-based Global One Group from 2006 to 2007 was “incredibly repulsive.”
Many of the victims, the judge said, were vulnerable, “middle-class working people taking money out of accounts, trading out of their 401(k) plans, their pension plans, even off of their credit cards.”

“Frankly, it was nothing more than a type of Ponzi scheme, but it was incredibly sophisticated,” he said. Judge Hicks said that he had to give Young credit for one thing — his “smooth” sales techniques on his webcasts. “It’s the court’s view the defendant obviously was impressed with his own skills in salesmanship that he could tell his story to the jury just as successfully,” he said.

He said Young may have begun with some good intentions but “got carried away” in a “snowball” of greed. “By the time it was at the bottom of the hill, he was so deeply mired in the fraud of these people that this court finds it, frankly, incredibly repulsive,” he said.

Does this one have any similarities to those of you that have been scammed and defrauded?

After reading the story of Jim Kreizinger whose $10,000 deposit for a bike were stolen, I want to make these remarks. 1. Jim wired money to BBC on November 14 for delivery of his bike 12 weeks later. BBC closed about 1 week later. What kind of businessman takes deposits 1 week before closing? The Alsop’s didn’t know they would close? Come on! 2. It will be interesting to know where the $10,000 went after being received on BBC account. Did the Alsop’s take out the money in cash, wire it to a personal bank account? In the US? Abroad? Same question for all deposits. How much the Alsop’s paid themselves at the time they were receiving deposits and not building these bikes? 3. The IRS could be involved, too both on the corporate and personal sides! 4. What kind of attorney talks to BBC’s clients to tell them in advance that he is going to file for chapter 7 about 6 weeks before it happens? What was his intention? To discourage scammed clients to do anything to get back their deposits? Telling them, too late you are out of luck? Now, I read above that their attorney is Mona’s brother! Sound suspicious to me. Should this attorney be investigated? 5- Who was the accountant, bookkeeper of BBC? How deposits were entered in the books if they were? Why wait at least 6 weeks to file for bankruptcy? To organize the removal/disparition of corporate assets that creditors could claim in compensation of their deposits? Everything sound strange to me,

FORGET MY STORY ON THIS SITE…. FORGET EVERYONE ELSE’S STORY… READ JIM KREIZINGERS … HE GAVE THE ALSOPS $10K AND THEY CLOSED THEIR DOORS JUST A FEW DAYS AFTER … JIM TO WAS GIVEN BROKEN PROMISES LIKE THE REST OF US… SO IF THE ALSOPS HAD INTENDED TO BUILD ANY BIKES OR REFUND ANY MONIES, WHY WOULD THEY TAKE JIM’S MONEY WHEN THEY KNEW THEY WERE GOING TO CLOSE THE DOORS JUST AFTER THEY HUNG UP THE PHONE…SO, WE ARE CALLED HATERS.. THAT IS A MYSTERY TO ME… I DON’T HEAR HATE…. JUST COLD HARD FACTS…. LIKE I HAVE SAID BEFORE, I DON’T THINK ANY OF US WILL SEE ANYTHING, BUT WE ALL DO HOPE THAT THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM DOES IT’S JOB AND GETS THESE PEOPLE OFF THE STREETS… ALL OF US INVOLVED, AND I MEAN INVOLVED, NEED TO BAND TOGETHER…. The presumption of innocence, sometimes referred to by the Latin expression Ei incumbit probatio qui dicit, non qui negat, is the principle that one is considered innocent until proven guilty. Application of this principle is a legal right of the accused in a criminal trial, recognised in many nations. The burden of proof is thus on the prosecution, which has to collect and present enough compelling evidence to convince the trier of fact, who is restrained and ordered by law to consider only actual evidence and testimony that is legally admissible, and in most cases lawfully obtained, that the accused is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. If reasonable doubt remains, the accused is to be acquitted.

  150. 150 Chuck Dec 14th, 2011 at 9:21 am

Sixth Amendment – Trial by jury and rights of the accused; Confrontation Clause, speedy trial, public trial, right to counsel

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.

Maybe you want to assist with getting the alleged wrongdoings/defrauded information that people are posting on many websites and in newspapers investigated to assist the various Law Enforcement Agencies posted herein with their investigation…come on what do you say…wanna help or not?

Alternatively, maybe you are an attorney licensed to practice and would offer your services Pro-Bono to all of the alleged victims posting herein? Or is it a conflict of interest, Chuck?

Business is business. Kevin was not running his business according to your rules.
You stupid people are going to be sure he gets acquitted because he cant get a fair trial. Because you cant stop running your mouths.
Just about as stupid as sending 30,000.00 with out any research.

“CONNECTED” laughable is all I can say to that.

  154. 154 Chuck Dec 14th, 2011 at 9:31 am

I have yet to see anything solid to back up these accusations. Strictly hearsay is all I see.
    Phoney names, fudged figures…..
The defense will have an easy win. And you people running your mouths will only have yourselves to blame.

  155. 155 Boss Hawg Dec 14th, 2011 at 9:37 am

    @ Chuck…

First off you chime in quoting law and the constitution?

Then you flip on us quoting “Kevin was not running his business according to your rules.” Enlighten us all please….what rules are you writing about now or are Kevin’s rules law?

I think most writing here, with the exception of a few like you, are concerned with alleged Mail Fraud, alleged Wire Fraud and alleged Banking Fraud and just fraud in general.

Tell us your thoughts please….How would you feel if a company failed to produce what you paid for or paid deposits or paid in full….come on Chuck tell us how you would act and react please?

Negative. You seem to be doing a decent job all on your own in that regard. You are helping us a lot. Please keep it up, and then these people will know to thank you personally, AFTER Kevin wins.

Accusations come from those who are victims. Don’t know how to read the comments above?

“Just because you haven’t received your bike on the date you expected it, does not mean you were ripped off.” Chuck, there is no expected date. You understand? Deposits are trust funds belonging to clients. They should not disappear when the bike is not built and completed. Understand the law?

I would suggest that anyone who believes they have been wronged by the Alsop’s should contact EACH of the law enforcement agencies that Boss has listed above and provide said agencies with whatever statements and/or evidence they may have to those agencies. Then let law enforcement sort out whether a crime or crimes has/have been perpetrated by the Alsop’s. Until someone formally files a complaint this issue may never be resolved and the” he said – she said” will continue.

  164. 164 Who is this guy? Dec 14th, 2011 at 11:05 am

Sounds to me like Chuck is that idiot that “hears” the accident outside, then goes running out to tell the police he “saw everything”.
Chuck, go back to bed. You’re an idiot, you can’t spell, and the quotes from the legal websites can be cut and paste off a 3 second google search.

“You stupid people are going to be sure he gets acquitted because he cant get a fair trial. Because you cant stop running your mouths.
Just about as stupid as sending 30,000.00 with out any research.”

Sounds pretty professional. Actually sounds as if you have nothing better to do, or you may be partially retarded, and you’re probably sitting in front of your PC with a Pabst and a donut, trying to sound cool and informed..

Had you any understanding of the law, a blog could not determine fraud one way or another and would have no bearing upon the outcome of a case unless Kevin or Mona were directly involved in correspondence on the blog.

Now go back to your Pabst and get those crumbs off of your gut before you put your Affliction shirt on , cool guy.

THE OTHERS PROBLEMS STARTED IN APRIL AND MAY…I DID CALL DETECTIVE MEREDITH THIS MORNING AND TOLD HIM ABOUT YOUR SITUATION….. I THINK HE ALREADY KNEW THOUGH….I FILED A REPORT WITH HIM ABOUT A MONTH AGO… I GUESS HE HAS SO MANY COMPLAINTS NOW THAT SOMETHING IS FINALLY BEING DONE….ALL IN ALL I THINK YOU HAVE THE BEST CRIMINAL CASE AGAINST THEM BECAUSE THEY TOOK YOUR MONEY JUST WHEN THE CLOSED THE DOOR…MEANING THEY REALLY HAD NO INTENSION OF GIVING YOU A BIKE… I WAS UP THERE AT THE TIME THEY WERE CLOSING THE DOORS AND MONA AND THREE OTHER GUYS WERE LOADING A TRUCK… THEY CLOSED THEIR DOORS THE WEEK BEFORE THANKSGIVING AND THEY LET THE ENTIRE STAFF GO AT THAT TIME… IF YOU GAVE YOUR ORDER TO KEVIN THAT WOULD BE GREAT…. HE WILL HAVE BEEN CAUGHT IN THE ACT… IT WOULD NOT SURPRISE ME IF YOU GOT YOUR MONEY BACK BECAUSE OF THAT, SO HE CAN PROTECT HIS OWN HIDE….. I’ve read everything posted about this to date and feel for the good hard working folks that may never see their money! I’ve worked in the industry for over 15 years, I’ve personally dealt with both Kevin and Mona in my roles within the industry. The most interaction came in the form of working for a distirbutor that handled some parts and their bike kits (I’m sure you can figure out who it was), I can personally tell you these two people deserve everything they get, to this day I have NEVER met anyone quite like them. Unfortunately the person we had dealing with them was so enamored with Kevin that we were upside down on the deal the whole time. Kevin even went as far as trying to get a good friend of mine fired over a minor dispute. I have ZERO doubt in my mind they intended to take the money and run. I’m sure they still live in their house paid for with “dirty” money and have no remorse for any of it. It is not about anything other than the two of them being low lifes (I’m being nice here) jail would be to nice for them!

I am a 18 yr Army Veteran stationed in Germany. I bought my 2011 Bare Bones Chopper last April and was promised 6-8 weeks. Then July, August, Sept/Oct then Dec/Jan time frame. At first the website said for a new Bare Bones Chopper ready to ride was $21,500, being a prior customer I got a $1,000 discount. A few weeks after I received my invoice paid in full from Rick Pratt, Attitude Customs our of Bend Or, I was told that Mike at BBC said I need to send another $7,000 because the prices changed, I raised hell and in the end Mike said they will suck up the cost but if I plan on ordering anymore it would cost me $7,000 more. After month to month emails and phone calls (which I saved all emails) I was promised in the end a 2012 instead of a 2011. I was promised free black powder coated wheels and a pointed rear fender at no extra cost. I WANT JUSTICE!!!!

I’m gonna go out on a limb and put $5 bucks on this ending up as the longest running comments on any of Cyril’s posts, because I’m sure I will still be able to read up on this one well into next summer.

Man it’s getting thick in here. If I were Kevin and Mona (which I am thankfully not, because I do not lack scruples), I would ‘fess up, come clean, and figure out how to make good on these people’s deposits. At the least…admit the failure with these people. You can lie to yourself and the banks all you want about the business failing…shit happens, but for God’s sake you took from people that liked YOUR product enough to buy one of YOUR bikes. People put their hard earned money down to buy something that YOU made appealling enough for them to believe it was worth THEIR MONEY.

When and where do you get off letting those people down and STEALING from perfect strangers? The term con-man comes to mind, except you had the ability to produce product for those people, but instead outright lied and took their money anyway.

It doesn’t mean the laws going to go any easier on you, but if there is any sort of recompense, perhaps the effort will serve you well when the gavel falls.

Prosecute for material breach of contract. You agreed to purchase by putting $10K down and they Big Bear Choppers mutually agreed to produce by accepting your money.

ToGray Beard and Keith Stone & Kiki,

That is my bike you’re looking at and that occurred back in August of 2007. Yes I sued BBC and WON! I also contacted the NHTSA back then and that’s why BBC was forced to recall 1152 bikes due to weld problems on the frame. The recall was a joke and out of the 1152 bikes in the recall there are 900 that still need the repairs done that will never get them done now as BBC is out of business.
If you look at some earlier posts by some jerk named Ariel Dakin you will see one of the things that Kevin was falsely telling people to try and divert attention away from the piss poor frame preparation and welding on those frames. They said I was pulling wheelies with the bike and that’s what caused the neck to break off. I have never done a wheelie on any bike I have ever owned. That was just smoke and mirrors on BBC’s part to try and cover their asses but my certified failure analysis and BBC’s own in house failure analysis said something very different which when delivered to the NHTSA is what prompted them to force BBC to do the recall.
I came within a hairs width of getting killed that day and it’s only by a total miracle that I didn’t get killed so I’m a bit sensitive when some asshole like Ariel Dakin tries and to spew that BS around again. I have always said and it still stands that if anyone wants to see that frame up close and personal and see the failure report just let me know and you are welcome to stop on by and see it for yourself and make up your own mind.
The lies and intimidation that BBC pulled to try and make me and others who had welding issues look like the bad guys was really far below the belt and showed what kind of people that Kevin, Mona and others at BBC really were and are. It’s absolutely no surprise to me what so many here have said as to getting ripped off by these two swindlers. The put on a pretty good front and keep the truth as hidden as possible but ultimately the truth came out and the true bad guys were revealed and their underhanded selfish plans. Hope they both burn in hell for all eternity for what they have done to honest hard working folks and the black eye they have given this industry!

I am shocked, since I paid full for my bike back in April 17, 2011, this was the first time I ever spoke to either Mona or Kevin on the phone, the number for Kevin on the old blog is the town police office but the one for Mona is her real number, by her voice she didn’t seem nervous about anything she was real joyful on the phone until I told her who I was then she hung up. At least they know my name who they screwed out of fucking $21,000

  212. 212 James Crawford Dec 15th, 2011 at 6:03 pm

@ Lightning Larry, sorry to hear about your acident bro, im sure there is a lot of selfish people out there that blame your lawsuit for them not getting there bikes, but I owned a 2005 Venom Chopper and bought it in 2007, I never got any word there was a recall until after I sold it to a guy here in Germany and he found out about it after I sold it to him, I felt bad and gave him a 1,000 euros back, I didn’t have too but the old man was like 63 and I didn’t want him to think I was pulling a fast one on him.

  213. 213 James Crawford Dec 15th, 2011 at 6:22 pm

You know I am so angry right now, I just found out about this bankrupt shit last night, I was really expecting my bike to be picked up and shipped by Christmas, I can’t believe this little extra money I made for spending 39 months total in Iraq on the Streets over the last years, away from my family and friends, fighting on the streets for people like Kevin and Mona Alsop….the little I saved up was for my bike that they took from me, but I tell you this, Mike Forbes is the one I am really pissed about. He was never straight with me, he knew long before and the last email I got from him was this. THis was November 8, 2011 Message body

    Hi James,

    Thanks for the understanding.

At the time of the order we had every intention of completing your bike in our normal time frame. Unfortunately, we were hit hard by the economy and other factors that forced us to downsize our operations which has added to our build times. We’re behind on all our builds. We will complete your bike very soon and we appreciate your support and interest in our bikes.

    Thanks again!!!!

    Hi James,

I know you’re anxious about your bike. We appreciate your patience. As you know it take us about 12 – 14 weeks to build the bike once we receive the deposit. Your order is about 10 weeks old.
Shortly after you ordered your bike we were forced to downsize our operations to insure we survived the economic downturn. This has made our build time longer for everyone who has ordered a bike from BBC.. We’re proceeding as fast as we can with your build. Your bike was actually moved to the front of the production schedule and was placed in front of other builds that are older orders than yours to meet your deadline . We’re still looking at about 3- 4 weeks to finish your build. We will do everything we can to get it done faster. Feel free to call me if you want to discuss the bike.

    Thanks

@james. Please dont bring micheal into the conversation. He was merely doing what he was told and had no part in the eventual demise of BBC. His job function was merely as a order taker, and as of late damage control, the latter of which was being manipulated solely by kevin. I know for a fact he feels awful for what happened as well as the issues BBC has been facing for the past 3 years. To him it was a job. He has responsibilities like anyone else. He tried to find new career avenues multiple times over the past year to no avail. If it were up to him he wouldve been gone two years ago and he wouldnt of had to go through the situation. With that said I understand your frustration. I respect you for serving our country and I hope the situation will be resolved to some degree for all those effected by this unfotunate event.

  216. 216 James Crawford Dec 15th, 2011 at 7:06 pm

@Gman, I have no respect for him, me as a Soldier and a leader, for some time now. If your Boss tells you to shoot someone that is innocent or not guilty who’s fault is it. Micheal knew for sometime now that I wasn’t going to receive the bike, and he know on November 8th when I got the last email from him that I was being screwed. He could have told me many months ago, but failed. He knew “the Alsops” were breaking the law and was wrong. I have no Pity for him now. He might be your best friend, as I have a few friends that are locked away as well for doing wrong. I blame Michael more for not being a man to me and being straight with me. Keep in mind there Gman, I have over 100 emails and long conversations with them, I have had many talks with Michael Forbes, now I know it is overall Kevin and Mona’s fault, and tonight when I called Mona for the first time and gave her my name she knew exactly who I was. I hope they all get 25 yrs, and Kevin gets treated like a girl in the show OZ

To be VERY clear…a friend of mine was at Cook’s Corner in So. Cal, checking out a yellow BBC a year and a half ago, when he noticed the frame crack at the neck. He went in and found the owner of the bike, who then called a tow truck to take his bike home for fear something would happen on his way home.
My friend is not in the industry and had no knowledge of this issue…simply mentioned it in passing the next time we went to Cook’s together, with a “last time I was here”….

Shit German price for a Bare Bones Chopper is at today’s rate $41,500 (30800 euros ) on their homepage maybe they packed up everything and shipped to one of the Dealers here in Germany??? They ship bikes and parts over here so they could have easily done it without anyone knowing and waiting for the storm to settle, skip Country and they already have shops set up in Germany and the UK Midland?? I mean I was charged $21,000 for my Bare Bones that I never got and then they changed the price for the same bike $28,500 but in Germany they are selling a Bare Bones for $41,500????

Sounds to me like he should seek immunity for states evidence and repent with the Lord Jesus Christ, especially for knowingly shafting our men in uniform. Good to know your still with us and that you won your case.
I noticed the pix in webshots of your bike when you or somebody else posted them a while back, either here or another site. After I posted that link to your pix here, I kinda wondered if this was yours.

I’ve been welding since the 70′s, and the first thing I looked at in your pix was the welds. How in the Hell can they say there wasn’t anything wrong with the welds ?!?!?! Who ever welded your bike, had NO fucking clue what they were doing. It’s all chicken shit, no penetration, also I noticed there was no gusset on the neck and backbone. That area is critical, its a stress point, it gets alot of pressure just riding down the road, especially them long bikes. Tomany guys think if they have a prettty bead, it’s a good weld.
Like I told my nephew when he started welding, Always remember, whatever you weld, someones health or life depends on it.

    @greybeard,
Looked at your link…Rage choppers? With tons of BBC stuff on their bike? Coming from Buck Lovell, at least you can trust the source.
Guess it may be a great idea for folks involved to know about Rage Choppers in Riverside. Sounds like a continuation company of sorts. Wonder whose name’s on the lease?

Again…not really my concern if they go out of business, but if you start taking money from other folks, let your company fold under radar, while beginning to move your stuff to another location as an “employee”…AT LEAST BE SMART ENOUGH NOT TO DO A PRESS RELEASE. I may be just speculating with seeing your link, but it seems to me a verification with the assessor’s office or the bank for that matter (should have an itemized list of equipment) could verify if any machinery had made its way over there.

  238. 238 James Crawford Dec 16th, 2011 at 11:08 am

You know I am very pissed I got screwed out of my money but the Bare Bones Chopper was the best bike I ever seen, and it really pisses me off that I never got mine and got screwed out of $21,000. I am still wishing this is all a dream or at the last minute Jesse James or someone is going to bail them out and save the day. I have owned 7 Harley Davidsons over the years and a 2005 Big Bear Venom Chopper, and if this fails, I believe I am done with bikes unless someone else out there makes a very very similiar bike to the Bare Bones. I really can’t believe noone out there could bail them out at the last min, or buy the patients from them to bail them out of screwing us all out of our Money. I haven’t slept for 3 nights over this shit and having chest pains over all of this. I wish to God I didn’t sell my 2008 Night Rod Special to send Big Bear my money.

    Hey Gray Beard,

Yeah, the pics were posted by an acquaintance of mine. He got the pics off of the Club Chopper thread back in 2008. Hell yeah I’m glad I’m still alive too!!!
The total lack of weld penetration is blatantly obvious to anyone that knows anything about welding whatsoever. Also notice that they did not bevel the tube ends as is required to get a full penetration weld on heavy wall tubing especially when using TIG, which is not a deep penetrating weld. The weld was so cold that even the paper-thin edges of the cope were not melted. One of the engineers at the company that did the failure analysis told me that JB Weld would have been better! Yet despite all the evidence BBC continued to deny it was their welds and lack of tube preparation that was at fault and they did so right up till the end and continued to lie about and never came clean! One guy on Club Chopper who started out not believing the welds were actually bad had an x-ray done and he became a believer right quick. The x-ray technician told him to call a tow truck to pick it up and not ride it because he feared it could break at any moment! He posted that x-ray over at Club Chopper and man did that ever cause the disbelievers to change their tune!
They really handled the recall badly too pushing it off on their dealers and not offering enough money per bike to properly repair them. Lots of folks could not find anyone that would do the recall for what BBC was willing to pay. At last count 900 of the 1152 bikes on the recall list were still in need of the recall. BBC really screwed a lot of people in the recall and seems that they just kept on screwing their customers right up till they shut the doors!

  246. 246 John Kerr Dec 16th, 2011 at 12:03 pm

This is really a sad day for people who put so much faith into BBC, me included. I received about 90% of the Venom Chopper kit that I ordered after paying upfront and waiting 14 months. I should count my blessings compared to guys like Jim K. who got totally screwed. There is a lot of anger and frustration on this site and most of it is justified. For those who partially blame the unsuspecting customer, that is total crap. When I ordered my chopper kit back in August of 2010, after Sturgis, BBC had a great reputation on the street as far as I could tell and the best BBB (Better Business Bureau) rating that they give. I checked before I bought my kit. They had been in business for a long time and I heard mostly great things about them from customers who had bought their bikes. I was unaware of the problems with the recall, my bad and I feel for Lightin’ Larry and what he had to go through.
For those who want to blame Australia for this, that is ridiculous! Most Aussies are great people and there are bad apples among all of us. For Kevin’s family, STFU! This has nothing to do with you and obviously you don’t understand just how badly Kevin handled this whole situation. This has literally ruined people’s lives and not even a word from him on how he was planning on handling this? That is below low class and totally unacceptable. To those who want to blame everyone at BBC, I understand your frustration but I think most of BBCs employees were hanging on for dear life themselves hoping things would turn around. They got screwed also and did not receive their paychecks for several months before the whole charade came crashing down. The important thing here is for all who have been screwed is to come together and make sure justice is served. I don’t know all the circumstances but I do know that a lot of customers did not receive what they paid for and Kevin did not have the decency to talk to each and every customer about what was going on and his plan to make it right. His silence is very damning and I hope he gets what he deserves. For the rest of you that are not directly involved, I suggest, like Boss Hawg has been doing, that you try and help the best you can those who have been screwed with information and advice. For you bike builders, I appreciate that some of you have volunteered to help us finish our dreams. That shows total class.
I would suggest that anyone that has been defrauded to make sure you contact Dectective Meredith at the Sheriff’s Dept (909 866 0100) That is the most important thing all of us can do. Stick together and make sure that justice is served.

    Hey Boss,

I doubt that the NHTSA is aware that BBC is now defunct. BBC was required to submit quarterly updates on the progress of the recall but the last one that was submitted was for the 2nd quarter of 2011 and the 3rd quarter report is now 2 months overdue. Somehow I don’t think the NHTSA will be getting any more quarterly reports from BBC on the recall.

Based on my readings, it seems to me that Big Bear Choppers may have violated some Federal Laws if that is the case and clearly has no regard for the US Government’s vehicle manufacturing requirements nor cares about the safety of others whatsoever by having 900 units awaiting repairs.

@ Boss Hawg, we have seen these recall bikes for sale on CL and Ebay going back to 08…to me, it doesn’t seem the NHTSA cares very much. They give their rating and are done with it.

I called the FBI Riverside office today (951 686 0335) and talked with the agent in charge of the White Collar Crime Division. He was very helpful, took my name and info. and said he needed to hear from everyone that has had trouble with BBC. The investigation is still with the Sheriff’s Dept in Big Bear (Ray Meredith 909 866 0100) until it is transferred over after they feel there is enough evidence to warrant the FBI getting involved. It is up to all of us to make this happen, particularly to those who have lost their life savings and dreams to Kevin Alsop. Even though my loses were not as great as many of you, I will be glad to be as helpful as I can in resolving the fraud that was brought upon all of us. Please feel free to contact me.

    Thank you..

I sincerely hope all the Big Bear Choppers customers that allege, herein and elsewhere, to have been ripped off and screwed out of their money by Big Bear Choppers, their Mona and Kevin Alsop and employees that may have been involved and screwed to, get ALL their money back with interest an send these two off to Club Fed or another appropriate penal colony for that matter for a very long time and that the government takes everything.

Based on allegations herein and elsewhere by several others, there seems to be quite clearly stated MULTIPLE Alleged Uni-Lateral Materiel Breaches of many MUTUALLY AGREED Bi-Lateral Sales Agreements Contracts/Purchase Orders/Invoices (Albeit verbal [verbal contracts are legal when there has been a meeting of the minds and funds exchanged] or in writing).

Hopefully those that have lost prevail, but they must band together and work as a cohesive unit and team…be persistent …call ALL Law Enforcement Agencies Especially Detective Meridith and District Attorney for San Bernardino County, and the FBI White Collar Crime in Riverside.

Call Judy Bowers at the Big Bear Grizzly and most importantly here, email Cyril with the facts.

Did Kevin and Mona Alsop Move From Big Bear Choppers To A New Bike Building Business? Fellow Moto Journalist Buck Lovell wrote this week in his website that a well informed source reported to him that Big Bear Choppers duo Kevin & Mona Alsop would now work for (without showing any ownership) in a new shop called Rage Choppers located in or around Riverside, California. The shop would build Big Bear Choppers style custom motorcycles. Coincidence? Rage Chopper was also the name of one of the models sold by Big Bear Coppers. I was unable to verify this information. During this time, those unhappy Big Bear Choppers clients who paid deposits or in full bikes never delivered at this day are trying hard, by all legal means, to get back their money.

  269. 269 Boss Hawg Dec 18th, 2011 at 11:12 am

Here are other avenues for those that have allegedly lost money and do not have their bikes.

Call and Write or Email Piasano Publications http://www.paisanopub.com/contact/
Get the Editor, Dave Nichols, and ask him to investigate and write an article about Big Bear Choppers and and why these customers funded orders have not been fulfilled. Dave Nichols is the editor in chief of Easyriders and V-Twin magazines and has been instrumental in getting chopper builders on television. He is an avid rider and one of the most enthusiastic supporters of custom bike builders in the entire motorcycle industry.

Call and Write or Email American Ironhorse. http://www.aimag.com/wordpress/about/
Get Editor-in-Chief Buzz Kanter, Editor Chris Maida, and female motorcyclists Genevieve Schmitt and Stephanie Feld involved and ask them to investigate and write an article about Big Bear Choppers and and why these customers allege funded orders have not been fulfilled.

Call and Write or Email ALL RALLY SPONSORS
Ask them to contact Big Bear Choppers Monoa and Kevin Alsop to see if these allegations are true as to why these customers allege funded orders have not been fulfilled.

Ask Jim Betlach (Vtwin Expo) (952) 443-4168 and Dave Nichols (PIsan0o Publications and Easyriders) http://www.paisanopub.com/contact/ to investigate Mona and Kevin Alsop Big Bear Choppers regarding all the allegations about alleged orders funded and deposits paid but no motorcycles or kits delivered.

  291. 291 James Crawford Dec 22nd, 2011 at 1:28 pm

We both are, Micheal Forbes is no where innocent in my case or many others out there, he led me on til the day they shut the doors!!!

@Jerry I’m happy for you that you got 90% of your bike, and for others out there too I am curious if Cris Angel got my Bear Bones with the same vin # I was promised, it’s funny how they took my money, and Micheal Forbes was so arrogant the week before the Ride the mountain, he told me James I will let you know more about the status of your bike after the Ride the Mountain weekend, they had just took out another $100K loan for what? To show off and ensure people like Chris Angel got his 4 bikes he ordered, I’m sooooo fucking pissed!!!

I AM SORRY FOR ALL OF US… I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO WERE BILKED OUT OF MONEY… JIM BEING ONE OF THEM….I TO BELIEVED EVERYTHING MICHAEL TOLD ME….HOPE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT IT… THE LAW MOVES SO SLOW… WHEN THE TIME COMES,,, LET ME KNOW SO I CAN TESTILY ABOUT ALL THAT I KNOW AT YOUR HEARING IF IT COMES TO THAT… I AM WITH YOU… I WANT TO PUT THEM AWAY… TAKE CARE… JER

Now Midland Big Bear Choppers just did there latest website update on Dec 8, 2011 and it looks like they are still in business. I see all the rumors and stuff but nobody really knows where they shipped all there machines and parts, before they were making routine shipping overseas, this store is in Switzerland is or was the main store overseas and they advertise brand new dealer in Frankfurt Germany too. I wonder if they can come over here and set up shop after all this is finished.

I have been riding for over 20 yrs and I’m 38 yrs old.

  304. 304 J. Kerr Dec 23rd, 2011 at 3:10 pm

Just an idea. “Dead Bear Choppers” may have decided to postpone bankruptcy to ship parts and bikes abroad to its 2 dealers without taking the risk of being accused of stealing corporate assets. The issue of taking deposits and not building bikes is still the same.

  305. 305 GetReal Dec 23rd, 2011 at 4:19 pm

James and Jim…Thanks for your service. But does it really matter how stupid ass old either of you are or how many motorcycles you two have owned when neither of you quite apparently can’t even make a very simple purchase transaction from folks as easy as Big Bear Choppers, Mike the Greek, Mike Forbes and Kevin and Mona Alsop were to deal with…NOT .

  306. 306 James Crawford Dec 23rd, 2011 at 5:08 pm

Get Real it’s very clear your a Dumbass for coming on here and talking shit to all of us that loss money with BBC, maybe BBC was a dream bike for you I don’t know, or you are only lonely and need something to do! My advice is to find another hobby, my last Chopper I owned I paid for it over the phone while I was in Iraq and had it waiting for me in Germany after a 16 month Deployment, and had a buddy of mine in Germany to wire $28,500 in my account to buy him one too, I paid for them both arranged both to be shipped from Bend Oregon to Bremen and bought a bike trailer at the same time over my laptop!! I had no issues! Me being back to back deployments and spent a total of 39 months in Iraq on the streets, it’s not a issue for me, you however have some kinda issues about this and it’s none of your business! You want to talk about being a real biker, you are a dumbass, it’s obvious you don’t have a clue or you are one of those that think you can’t get on your bike unless you have your fake leather (pig leather) on or looking like what you see is tuff in the movies, I’ve lived 16 yrs in Germany and one thing I have to say is German or European Bikers are more real, it doesn’t matter what you drive your welcomed to any biker party, it doesn’t matter when I pull up with a $40,000 Chopper or a V-Max, Germans enjoy 2 Wheels and like to have fun and the nest thing is over here you don’t have to worry about some faggot trying to steal your bike! I registered my 2007 Heritage Softail at FT Bragg in 1999 and was stolen July 4th 1999 in my Uncles front yard, you don’t have to worry about shit like that over here!! I am a proud biker, I prefer my kinda bikes but I have no problem riding beside my buddies Ducatii or a BMW, Riders in Europe respect bikers period!!!

  307. 307 James Crawford Dec 23rd, 2011 at 5:36 pm

  308. 308 Jay Zudonyi Dec 24th, 2011 at 4:07 am

I am one of the many who was duped by the company. Although, I have majority of the bike, I am still missing components. Thankfully, my contract is not with BBC but with a local company in Washington who is finishing the build and has assured me that he will be able to complete my bike by outsourcing the remaining parts.

Through the grapevine, I heard that a new company has started in Riverside…which they are currently operating out of. Did you hear anything about this?

  309. 309 James Crawford Dec 24th, 2011 at 1:47 pm

  310. 310 GetReal Dec 24th, 2011 at 1:52 pm

JamesCrawford ..must writing about yourself. Seems all that self esteem got you about $.02 cents worth of fame now didn’t it big boy. For all its is worth, it got you absolutely no where but deeper in debt…how stupid. Seems you should get with Kevin and Mona Alsop at Big Bear Choppers and work all this out like others have or did you not really pay them what was due and that is why you don’t have a bike? Which just may be the story.

  311. 311 Jim Kreizinger Dec 24th, 2011 at 4:06 pm

Hey get real,I spoke with Kevin on the phone to “Work This Out” as you say.Kevin took my $10,000 deposit 9 days before he filed for chapter 7,and now I can’t get my deposit. He asked me to settle for a frame & Tins.I don’t consider that as ‘Working this Out”,Do you? That’s why I contacted the law,Maybe we can “Work this Out” now. Jim Kreizinger.

“Get Real” you are a loser, you post these comments without using your real name, are you Kevin’s Sister? If so your a stupid bitch, I can say this Kevin will pay for what he has done to me, I’m still young and this is something I will never forget, or forgive and I will get payback one way or another, I may lose my $10,000 deposit by BBC, but now I’m getting the run around with the $11,000 by the dealer I went through, if I don’t get this in 30 days Bitch I’m flying over to the West Coast so please give me your name “Big Man”, I would make some time out of my schedule to look you up too, I’m 6ft 3 and weigh 227lbs and if you really think your such a big man we can meet and drink a beer before I fly back Bitch!!!

    Cyril,

First, I want to thank you for being a huge force in the information world. I find myself reading your articles frequently. Keep it up.

In March of 2010, I retired from the Army and started working again with a company that would take me overseas often. After 3 tours to combat and with my selection of occupation which takes me away from home often, I thought I would treat myself to a nice sled. In October 2010, I set everything into motion with American Motorcycle in Washington to start the build. When I got there, the experience was great. I sat there with Gordon the shop owner, picking and choosing between things to make it “my” bike and a one of a kind. Once everything was agreed upon, I gave them a check for the complete bike minus costs for additional equipment I know I would be requesting as the build continues. I was told that the build would be approximately 4 months because the kits would be sent up from BBC. To no fault of American Motorcycles, the build was delayed. And that has continued since then until present. Gordon detailed the build http://www.americanmotorcycles.com/project.htm

But now American Motorcycles is trying to complete my build without the assistance of BBC.

I was really upset to find out that BBC left so many people hanging. I was strung along by BBC and I can only imagine the people that have sent their deposits in only to hear that BBC is out of business. It even sickened me to see Chris Angel getting all 8 of his motorcycles completed in the year it took to get my bike half done.

I am grateful that my friends have not been hit by this after they showed interest in purchasing from BBC. Now they see what I am going through and have since steered far away from there. The Feds are now involved, and I hope Mona and Kevin get what they deserve…not to mention, the people who thought they were buying a dream only to live in a nightmare, get some closure on this matter.

Been reading everyone’s posts on this since the day it all started and for some it really sucks that Kevin and Mona stole your money and let you hanging high and dry. As has been said if your one of those folks you need to use all the legal clout you can muster to see these criminals put behind bars for as long as possible.
To those who still believe that Kevin and Mona are good people it’s time for you to open your eyes, pull your heads out and read the writing on the wall and face the truth no matter how hard it to swallow and stop being such a bunch of pussies!
I think that the likes of “Ariel Dakin” and “Get Real” are most likely either very close friends with the Aslop’s or more likely related to them. After rereading Ariel Dakin’s posts and Get Real’s posts they seem eerily similar in style and content. My guess is that they are in fact the same person, perhaps one of Kevin and Mona’s kids hopping to save mommy and daddy from going to prison and thereby pulling the plug on their spoiled little lives! When all the facts are in and the truth published I’m totally confident that both Kevin and Mona will be found guilty of many, many things and so will many that worked for them. There is a special place in hell for those who profess to be bikers and then turns around and rips off real bikers for personal gain! I know that the fires are burning hotter and hotter for Kevin and Mona Alsop Et al.!

    LL

  329. 329 Devil's Advocate Dec 27th, 2011 at 9:24 pm

I’ve seen this many times before, especially in the past two years. When a Co. gets in over its head, they have to follow the leading of their lending institutions Special Assets Dept. who aren’t very nice and the legal system. Both don’t advise doing anything until their status is made official. Meaning, they can’t do anything for their customers, vendors or employees, for legal reasons. And, they can’t make public comments. To do so would hurt their case. Unfortunately, these things take years to resolve.

I don’t believe the Alsop’s are bad people, to the contrary, they just got in over their heads and didn’t downsize soon enough. If you know Kevin and Mona, they’re good people who happen to be, in a bad economy. They didn’t change, their circumstances did. Hide and watch, they’ll come out of it and we’ll see how it shakes out for everyone concerned.

Be prepared for the worst, but hope for the best.

PS, I love my 2009 BBC DA.

  330. 330 James Crawford Dec 28th, 2011 at 6:11 am

@DA I’m glad you got your bike and you are happy with it, and I’m sure if I had got my Bare Bones I would have been very happy, we people on this post got robbed, they stole our money and I hope they go to prison or something worse happens to Kevin, Mona, and Kevin Forbes! They may have been good people before they stole our money, but they are no different than if they gone to a bank and robbed a bank, but of course the customers would have been insured if they robbed a bank!! In my eyes they are far worse than any bank robbers, and I hope they burn in Hell!!

  331. 331 R.J. Zudonyi Dec 28th, 2011 at 10:41 am

    Boss Hawg,

I have been prodding around on the internet and it is amazing to see how much damage that BBC has done. This link http://www.sturgis.com/content/index.php/bblogs/entry/blabb/rage-choppersisnt-that-a-big-bear-model.html is making me wonder if BBC did in fact send their equipment “elsewhere” in order to operate under a different name.

As for the FBI, I have sent them a report, but because my contract is through American Motorcycles in Tacoma, WA, most of the issues will have to be dealt with by my builders. What I did get from the Feds was that I have pertinent information and “information is being gathered”. Decipher that if you can.

I too wonder if Chris Angel knows what kind of mess BBC is in. While I was overseas, my wife took it upon herself to call BBC two weeks before the Big Bear Ride The Mountain event. During that conversation, neither Kevin or Mona knew where my invoice was…they soon found it and told her that they would be able to fill our order within the week. Mona then went as far as inviting us to the Ride The Mountain and would give us their lake house for a week for the “inconvenience” of everything. Obviously, you know I never got all the parts, I was overseas, so the invitation would not be “rain checked”, and yet another “Mind Freak” motorcycle comes off the assembly line.

It is a shame that Kevin and Mona were far more worried about background appearances on “Sons of Anarchy” then worrying about taking care of a paying customer and people who supported them to include the City of Big Bear.

Please don’t worry about getting your bike.  We can proceed to build the bike and we could get you the bike in October and it would be a 2012.  October is the earliest we can get 2012 certification.

Your Bear Bones motorcycle will be issued a 2012 Vehicle Identification Number.

This will not take place until our 2012 engine certification process is completed.

Good luck to you folks who got screwed. Though I’m sure the Alsops never intended to be forced to bilk folks of their money, it appears that they did it with clear conscience.

So sad all around. I’ve worked for a long time ,saving to buy the bike of my dreams, and now to read all of the comments posted, I’m a little saddened to know that my Pro Street isnt quite as sweet as it was when I first picked it up in October.I do understand business, and how things dont always work out the way you want them to, seeing as that I have two of my own, but at some point you start to see the writing on the wall as to which way your business is headed.I really hope that everyone who was financially hurt in this is somehow compensated but I also know that this is not always achievable. In the end I hope we all agree that we all have something in common, we love to ride and we love bikes, all bikes, I’ve read alot of angry comments the past few weeks, hopefully in the real near future we can find out the whole story, until then God Bless America, and I hope to see everyone at Sturgis in 2012. And if anybody can recommend a good shop to take my bike here in Minnesota I would sure appreciate it!

Boss Hawg, as I said before I’m out of $20,500 right now, I went through Rick Pratt, Attitude Customs from Bend Oregon, Rick Pratt sent me a invoice when I ordered my bike paid in full $21,000, $500 too much and he later sent me $500 back! Ok so Rick Pratt, owner of Attitude Customs, Bend Oregon, kept $10,500 of my money and sent BBC $10,000, I asked Rick Pratt where is my money from him and he said James give me 30 days and I will have your money, now 30 days past and no money from him and he tells me I need a lawyer now and he is waiting for his insurance company??? I said Rick why do I need a lawyer or why should I go through your insurance company to get back $10,500 that you had from me since nearly 1 year now??? Boss I need some help before I fly out to the West Coast and you see me on CNN!!!

Rick Pratt, owner of Attitude Customs, Bend Oregon (541)385-3090
located at 63003 Plateau Dr.#2 Bend Or 97701 was the dealer I went
through to order my BBC Bare bones, he received a check from my bank
on April 2011, he sent BBC $10,000 and back in December when I found
out BBC was going to file bankruptcy and screw me out of my $10,000 I
called Rick Pratt and emails about my money from him, he said he hopes
Kevin and Mona Alsop get criminal charges and such, when I asked for
my money back $10,500 from him he said James I need 30 days, I have
your money and you will get it.  Then he tells me I need to go through
his insurance company and his attorney advise him not to release my
money?  I said Rick why should I have to go through a attorney to get
my money from you, you have had $10,500 of mine for almost a year now
and I shouldn\’t have to wait for my money if BBC was open for
business and finished my bike today, you were to send the remaining
balance owed that you have had from me since April 2011.  I contacted
the Bend Oregon Sheriff\’s office and they contacted Rick and then they contacted the DA, the DA and the Police said this wasn\’t correct to hold my money and then Rick Pratt from Attitude Customs replied he has a Attorney and he is considering Bankruptcy as well.  The DA and Sheriff\’s office said he can face criminal charges for taking my money, he is trying to do the same like BBC with me now???

I worked at this place and in the first month it was easy to see that a former vet assistant (Mona) was not fit to be CEO of any company, unless company aquisitions were to overspend on Kardashian style makeup, Ed hardy tshirts and big hair. It was blatantly easy to spot the flaws and when I pointed them out to the “Efficiency Engineer” a week later they decided I should go. I made a few good friends their and after six months every single person I had worked with had either quit or got fired. Mona used to have people fired if their wife was hotter than her (and that was alot of guys).

Kevins cool- he’s a passionate biker and seemed to be a good dude. But, how can you hire a guy, have him tell Kevin this needs to change, thats is wrong, your frames are not welded corretly cuz the welder quits or gets fired every month, and then fire the guy who is trying to show you the right thing? It was doomed until they got ghetto rich, blew wads of money on houses, cars and clothes; then went on tv to say “Please help us”. pathetic. Enjoy prison and Mona should go if she was CEO in charge of all the money.

Similar stories as you guys in the states but Chris at Wildcard has had to cop all the abuse because of Kevin and his never ending promises. Wildcard customs now have things back on track and deliver better big bears than in america as they produce and assemble their own bikes. If Kevin steps foot back in this country there is plenty of people who would like to pay him a visit and and teach him the repercussions of screwing people over. @Shadow666, after one of your earlier posts, Kevin called my husband demanding to know if he was the one that posted as he goes by Shadow. My Shadow told him if he ever posted anything, there would be no question who it was because we have no problem telling him to his face what we would put in writing. With your last post it is obvious that you are from Australia and that Kevin, Mona and BBC are wreaking havoc all over the world and even in his home country.

Personally, our story is we bought a kit from BBC in the early days, loved the bike, had great help from Gene, Mike P. and Tony and even Kevin. The frame issue was dealt with and taken care of, so when the Warrior Foundation came to us to help with a kit for the injured warriors in San Diego to build a chopper as part of their rehabilitation, we had no problem recommending BBC. However, without talking to us, Warrior Foundation paid BBC in full for a kit, because Kevin insisted this was the only way they could order their kit. If we had known that we would never have allowed the Warrior Foundation to move forward under those terms, a deposit should have been enough, but it went downhill from there. We had to keep on them for months to get the kit complete, kept being told it is being “mocked up”, lies upon lies, then finally we showed up in person and got about 50% of the kit and when we went back again, they were closed and Kevin was there, so we were able to get a few more parts, some used, some not the correct part, he just wanted to get us “out of his hair” So the Warrior Foundation paid $15,000 for a bike kit that has maybe a $7,000 value in miscellaneous parts. BBC stole from our injured warriors, the guys who have sacrificed for our country. We know that BBC has done this to many other customers, but we can only speak about our own experience and this experience sucks for injured warriors.

@Kevin and Mona and anyone watching, this is Diane, Shadow’s wife, you know how to get in touch if you ever decide to make things right!

Hi I bought a sled 300 when they were up and cocking in 2008 and the service and turn around was crap. Tech support suggested every wrong thing possible and will not replace parts under warranty. And when I bought the parts from their vendors. Their vendors instructed me that they are tired of teaching them the correct way. I feel bad for the customers that got beat for Money but Kevin and Mona run business like shit and they need to learn a lot

    James,
    understand your frustration.
Just to let you know, I lost over a quarter of a million dollars to Big Bear American made Choppers dude! most of my savings gone! The only way I could get it back was to go in deeper and buy some of the the liquidated assets of Big Bear and try to manufacture bikes myself.
I have a young family, 2 boys, and it was about their future James. Maybe that helps you understand why I have done what I have done, I couldn’t just walk away and lose money like that.
I am sorry that you lost money along with a lot of other people including myself, there are definitely no winners when a company goes bankrupt, it’s really bad all round.
All I am trying to do is put things back on track for a business that I was trying to get off the ground for my family’s future and this is my way of doing it.
    Best Regards
    Simon

I FEEL BAD FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THIS UNFORTUNATE ”MESS”. I DONT THINK IT WILL HURT THE CHOPPER INDUSTRY TOO MUCH. LIKE ME, I HAVE LOVED CHOPPERS ALL MY LIFE. EVER SINCE I WAS A KID, FROM THE FIRST TIME I EVER SAW ONE, I HAVE LOVED THEM. I THINK THE CHOPPER INDUSTRY WILL KEEP GOING ON, MAYBE NOT AS BIG, BUT IT WILL GO ON AS LONG AS THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO LOVE, RIDE,AND WANT A CHOPPER. THROUGH ALL MY LIFE’S UPS AND DOWNS IT HAS TAKEN ME 50+ YEARS TO FINALLY OWN ONE. IT IS A DREAM COME TRUE. I SAW THE CHOPPER CRAZE COME AND GO BACK IN THE 60′S AND 70′S. BUT IT CAME BACK AGAIN, BECAUSE PEOPLE STILL LIKED CHOPPERS LIKE ME.I WORK IN A DIFFERENT TYPE OF BUSINESS, AND IT NOW IS UNDER THE THIRD COMPANY NAME. BANKRUPTSY HIT THEM TOO, AND THE SAME THING HAPPEND IN THAT CASE AS WELL. VENDORS CAME AND TOOK THEIR ITEMS BACK, COULDNT GET ANY MORE PRODUCT TO SELL,BAD MANAGEMENT, CROOKED CEO’S, ETC. BUT THE BUSINESS GOT BACK ON ITS FEET AND MOVED ON. SO I SAY THERE ARE STILL A LOT OF GOOD CHOPPER COMPANIES OUT THERE. SOME HAVE COME AND GONE, AND BBC WONT BE THE LAST, BUT IF YOU LIKE CHOPPERS, LIKE ME, DONT GIVE UP ON THEM. IF YOU REALLY WANT ONE, GO AND BUY ONE, I DID, AND I LOVE IT. GOOD DAY TO EVERYONE, AND RIDE SAFE !

JUST WANTED TO ADD AN EXTRA NOTE. THE CHOPPER THAT TOOK ME 50 + YEARS TO GET IS A 2005 BIG BEAR. SO FAR SO GOOD, NO PROBLEMS SO FAR. HAD IT CHECKED OUT FROM FRONT TO BACK, BECAUSE I BOUGHT IT USED. WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME HAD IT BEEN A CAR. BUT I LOVE IT , NO PROBLEMS AT ALL WITH IT , AND AS MY GRANDFATHER USED TO SAY ABOUT THINGS THAT WOULD GO FAST, ” IT WILL CATCH CHICKENS”. HAVE A GOOD DAY TO EVERYONE.

Wow. Having owned a 2004 BBC Pro Street Venom since 2009, I have had no issues other than a broken throttle cable. The bike is truly awesome and turns heads/receives compliments everywhere I go. it only has 4 k on the clock and I got her with 2, so I haven’t gone that far. It’s terrible to hear stories like this. It’s a shame when things like this happen. Seeing as I never plan to sell I don’t worry about the resale value. Individually, the components involved in the build alone are all top notch! Good luck to all!

  367. 367 pokergolf420 May 2nd, 2012 at 1:02 pm

It’s pretty obvious that this Ariel idiot is Mona Alsop. I have dealt with you and your husband/them a couple times even before the recall and wasn’t impressed. You/they were both arrogant and seemed to have no concern for your/their customers safety. All anyone has to do is look at how the recall was handled (lies, denial, finger pointing, etc….). Did you not have frames fail under your/their own in house testing? Did someone sneak in and grind those welds and drill extra holes, and since there was never a motor mounted in them was the top engine mount bolt a contributing factor? And you say 6 failures on finished bikes is not a big deal. Really? So if any of those failures resulted in death it’s no big deal? It sounds like that’s what you’re saying. Would you put your fat ass on one? Using business practices destined to fail and having a company run by theiving b@stards led you/them to where they/you are today. I hope they/you enjoy their/your time in prison because that’s where this is gonna end up. And please everyone stay away from Ragehard, or Retard, or Raghead motors, or whatever they’re calling themselves this week. it is the Alsops. The saddest thing is that the bikes were nice bikes, just welded for crap and backed by a morally bankrupt company. Run right that company could have been pretty succesful and even survived the economy.

  368. 368 pokergolf420 May 2nd, 2012 at 1:08 pm

Message to Simon Scott: As long as you’re associated with the Alsops you will be viewed as a cancer in the industry. Not to mention that everyone now has a location for the turd, even if it’s only an email address.

  369. 369 I GOTS MINE May 9th, 2012 at 7:27 pm

Ordered my Bear Bones , paid in full at time of order , 8 weeks later the bike was delivered to my residence as stated by Michael Forbes. The best part about it , I only paid $ 18,000.00 . If you got screwed——- well I guess it sucks to be you. Thanks for a sweet ride Big Bear Choppers.

  370. 370 Jim Kreizinger May 10th, 2012 at 3:48 pm

Glad your happy with your bike, keep an eye on your welds on frame upper neck.Me, I gave $10,000 deposit 4 days later Big bullshit chumppers closed there doors. Don’t try and sell it you will lose your ass, nobody wants a B.B.C. chopper.

  371. 371 I GOTS MINE May 10th, 2012 at 7:43 pm

    Apparently you wanted one .

  372. 372 I GOTS MINE May 10th, 2012 at 8:17 pm

I would think since the frame recall that big bear would have fixed any problems they had with their welding process. People act as though big bear is the only company to ever have a defective part. In reality it happens all the time. I worked in the automotive industry for a number of years and have seen many recalls, some very serious. Believe me , the big three have had their share of lawsuits involving injury and or death. Don’t get me wrong , It sucks that people were injured but it happens. I am currently a lead welder for a small company and know what a good weld looks like and mine look fine . I will keep an eye on them anyway.

  373. 373 pokergolf420 May 15th, 2012 at 4:34 pm

Bad welds are the least of the issues with BBC. Even after welds failed under their own in house testing, they were still blaming customers, even though the frames they tested never left their shop and were never in the hands of anyone but them. How can you blame 1 customer when you have an in house failure rate near 50%? They lied through their teeth, stole from good people and then went and hid behind bankruptcy. I guess there are still people out there stupid enough to deal with the thieving, lying Alsops, but they’ll lose in the end. When you run into your first issue it will suck to be you, especially when they’re in prison tossing salads. And as for the welds, in their minds there never was a problem, so I doubt they did much to fix it. Also, your welds might look good, but just because the bead looks good on top, it doesn’t show how much penetration you have. The only way to tell is to x-ray or section, but I’m sure you know that being a lead welder and all. By the way, have you seen x-rays of customer bikes? 0% penetration. Those welds looked good too.

  374. 374 I GOTS MINE May 15th, 2012 at 8:48 pm

Blah Blah Blah. Who gives a shit. If you don’t like them that’s your business. I bought my bike before any bankruptcy bullshit , what they did after that is their problem . I inspect my bike on a regular bassis and if I see any weld separatiion I have the ability to fix it myself. I don’t need some chump quoting shit you probably read on an earlier post !

  375. 375 pokegolf420 May 16th, 2012 at 11:33 am

No, I lived the shit. Went through the joke recall, heard the lies, dealt with the thieves on a daily basis. And this was 3 years ago, well before the cowards filed bankruptcy. Obviously you’re the one with secondhand facts At least it’s good to see that you have the ability to fix it when it fails. I’m sure you have a frame jig and the skills to disassemble and reassemble the front end. With your attitude of almost feeling joy for all the people who got screwed, all I can do is laugh when I ride by your ass laying on the ground with a busted bike. If you had a fraction of a brain you would avoid these guys like the plague, but you don’t. You’re an idiot. You deserve each other. Enjoy being their only customer. I don’t know, maybe you’re the type that when someone screws them over you beg for them to do it again and love it. Normal people get pissed.

  376. 376 I GOTS MINE May 16th, 2012 at 3:50 pm

Easy asshole. It seems as though you need help with your anger issues. Get over it and move on fool.
