Six teams of local Milwaukee high school students and their bike-building mentors are 2 months into restoration of vintage motorcycles through a moto-mentor program. Founded this year by The Iron Horse Hotel and giving students the opportunity to learn vintage bike restoration while developing important life skills, the nation’s only high-end boutique hotel catering to motorcycle enthusiasts serves as the conduit for connecting the teams of experienced mentors with local high school students. Together the teams were given $2000 and 90 days to rebuild vintage Honda CB or CL 160’s. As of mid-April, the program includes only five schools (1 team bowed out), leaving a cliffhanger for the remaining teams on how to collectively work together to complete the sixth bike.
