The article “If this was Sturgis main street. Would you still come?” written by Chris Callen got a lot of positive reactions including one posted by Klock Werks Kustom Cycles in South Dakota. Read it, and join the crew for a party with them on July 31st (their 3rd annual) when you are on your way to Sturgis. “Hello Cyril. With Sturgis right around the corner there is lots of talk about the numbers being down. Being based out of Mitchell SD right on I-90 we see Sturgis and Black Hills traffic a good month before the rally and a month after the rally. It’s like that every year and by the number of motorcycles parked outside our local hotels and motels every night I see nothing has changed. Motorcyclists are still choosing to ride. Most riders I know make their budget cuts elsewhere before they start starving the riding bug.
Now I’m not too sure who “They” are who tell us the numbers are going to be up or down for the rally every year. But I’ve never taken too much stock in what “They “ say. I know I’m not alone. If you are an enthusiast the potential lower numbers will just help make your experience a little bit more enjoyable. If you’re a vendor/builder your walk up traffic may be less but you can be sure your dealing with more experience and qualified buyers. Sounds like a win win to me.
Chris Callen said it very well in Monday’s post. “What do you expect to get out of Sturgis?” I expect everyone who attends will be glad they did and tell stories about their trip just they did from years past. And I expect if you choose not to go and your riding buddies come back telling you stories about what you missed. You’ll just wish you had gone. I personally expect to get sun burned, rained on, see old friends and enjoy the hell out of it all.

About a 4 ½ hour ride via I-90. Mitchell has plenty of hotels/motels and campgrounds for the weary traveler. So it’s a perfect last stop on your way west. So if it fits your schedule stop into Mitchell and come celebrate the camaraderie of motorcycling on Thursday and head out to Sturgis with the Krew on Friday!!
