Yes hard work is as good as talent and David has both exceptional skills and the obsessive desire to express on canvas as many motorcycles as he has ever seen in the street, in museums and in the Harley-Davidson secret photo archives.

“IronHorse Junction” featured here is his most recent release (Brought to life from an archival black and white photo) and the first of David’s new “Early Transportation Series”. This collection will feature Harley-Davidson alongside different modes of transportation. Matching edition numbers will be made available for those choosing to collect the series in the future. Christmas is coming, so I give you the print specifics (all canvas giclee, hand-signed, numbered, Certificate of Authenticity): “Small” – image size appx 16 x 12, $375 framed. “Medium” – image size appx 24 x 18, $1,250 framed. “Large” – image size appx 34 x 26, $1,895 framed. “Jumbo” – image size appx 42 x 31, $3,500 framed. I debuted a huge painting of the Goodyear F2G, a Super Corsair. The only one flying in the world, originally designed to out-climb the Kamikaze before he could dive. It sports the largest piston engine ever developed with 28 cylinders (4 banks of 7) for around 4600 hp. This is the plane as it raced its last competition in 1949 in Cleveland, against a p51, spitfire and then a p38 lightning. It will go into the museum next to the plane itself in Chandler Az. I will do a small edition of several sizes, being the original is nearly six Ft across. As usual Greg is taking orders at 303 913 4840″. David Uhl, Uhl Studios.

For a few (big) extra bucks, your favorite air brush artist could extend the nose art theme from your bike to a panel to hang in your office. But it will never be on an original piece of steel coming from an authentic bomber.

After the end of the Cold War many B-52 bombers were destroyed as part of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty. They were sent to the “Airplane Graveyard” at the AMARG Facility in Tuscon, Arizona where the wings were snapped off. And some smart guys got original pieces featuring authentic nose art. Not cheap, but AUTHENTIC. You can choose your pin-up from the existing stock or order your favorite one to be painted on an authentic bomber panel. By the way, when you visit MotoArt, browse their amazing collection of automotive inspired furnitures. Perfect for your home, garage or shop.

Flat paint on bikes is back. At least since year 2000. To the point that manufacturers like Harley-Davidson & Indian Motorcycles (among others) noticed and are now offering respectively the Harley Dark Series models (since 1 year) and the Indian Dark Chief (for 2010). And no, today’s right way to do a nice/long lasting scratch resistant flat paint job is not to rush to your auto-parts store to buy a few cans of Krylon/BBQ/Engine paint. Please…

Ok, there are several techniques like the process of painting and clear-coating and sanding and buffing the clear coat which will remain somewhat although the paint will look flat. Or using a paint flattener but it involves some guessing. But now, thanks to progress and paint development there is even a better way. TCP Global offers a flat paint process called Hot Rod Flatz. flattened ready to spray low-gloss color. And now does it make you creative if I tell you that it exist in 36 traditional colors (mix yours) and also 20 flat pearls and flat metallics!

There’s no guessing with how much flattener to add; it’s already added for you. Just mix at the 4-parts color to 1 part hardener to 1 part reducer ratio and you’re ready to spray. This urethane system is easier to mix and spray, with much greater durability and chemical resistance. It offers excellent adhesion to properly prepared steel, aluminum, fiberglass and OEM finishes and contains UV inhibitors. Yesterday morning I saw this Santiago Chopper New Trike doing a few spins just before being delivered to the client. No, it’s not primer that you see. It’s a Hot Rod Flatz paint. Now you know that flat paint bikes don’t have to be only black.

And it’s a very good thing to see such an expansion of the artistic community (painters, illustrators, photographers etc) exhibiting their works during our motorcycle rallies. Jay Allen is adding a fine art gallery to the Broken Spoke, Sturgis County Line, located on route 79 in Sturgis South Dakota. During Daytona Bike Week I reported on Jeff unveiling of his bronze masterpiece of a sculpted Elvis. David followed up with “American Icons” that I saw him painting while in Daytona. After poring over thousands of archival photos from the collection of Elvis Presley Enterprises the past few years, David envisioned an image unlike any he had seen. Using the same pose as with Jeff Decker’s bronze, this stunning image features Elvis astride his beloved 1956 KHK with some of his incredulous fans in the background. Elvis purchased the bike in January of 1956 and in May of that same year, he was featured with it on the cover of The Enthusiast magazine. The bike currently resides in Harley-Davidson’s Museum in Milwaukee.

“America’s Icons” will be cross-licensed through Harley-Davidson and Elvis Presley Enterprises and in the spirit of keeping the edition size as low as possible, David is pleased to offer the following exclusive release:
”Regular” – image size 20 x 25, $1,250 framed (edition of 50 plus 20 APs and 5 HCs).
”Jumbo” – image size 28 x 35, $2,250 framed (editon of 10 plus 2 APs). And if you want this magnificent original it is available as well, 24 x 30, oil on linen. If interested, contact Agent Greg Rhodes at greg@uhlstudios.com or call: 303-948-1088. David Uhl Studios.

The new Bike Week release of artist David Uhl named “Daytona Ink” use this pier as the background of this new painting featuring a female biker tattooed by Nick Pugh. “Daytona Ink” marks the fifth commemorative Bike Week print in this series, joining “Censored 1933″, “Rumblefish”, “Buried Treasure” and “Babe”. As with these previous releases, “Daytona Ink” will only be available through the end of the rally (March 8th). These canvas giclee prints come hand-signed and numbered with a Certificate of Authenticity and those collecting the entire Daytona series will be given first right of refusal on their matching edition number. “Regular Canvas” – image size 20″ x 30″, $895 framed and shipped. “Jumbo Canvas” – image size 28″ x 42″, $2,250 framed and shipped. David Uhl & this original painting will be at Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona in Ormond Beach from February 26 through March 7. Information and orders at Greg Rhodes 303-913-4840
or visit Uhl Studios.

I have a VERY special offering that has never been made before…..I have spent the last year and a half building a studio/gallery space in Golden, Colorado (see image above) . Since we are nearly finished I have before me the arduous task to organize all my prints. Looking through my flat files has yielded many forgotten treasures from the past. Rather than finding a place for everything I thought I would make some of these available at a significant price reduction for all those who may have liked a piece but could not afford one.

In 1998 when I became the archival painter for Harley-Davidson, I was published by Segal Fine Art. They set my pricing structure and I have not raised the prices since, and in my business you cannot drop them because of the investment of all those who purchased previously.

I have included test prints, old posters, and unique items stuck in my drawers for years. I will be implementing a reserve on all items to keep them from being given away, but I assure you these prices have NEVER been lower. Anyone buying any of these items can rest assured they will arrive in perfect condition along with the certificates and appropriate paperwork. For all those who reside in the continental U.S. I am offering free shipping on all unframed prints. Happy Holidays and Good Luck! ” David Uhl, Uhl Studios.

What a month! Painter David Uhl who is writing motorcycle history with his brushes just released “An august To Remember” featuring an old timer biker front of Mount Rushmore getting ready to ride from the Black Hills to Milwaukee, but not before attaching a 105th pin to his leather jacket. In David’s words, “In the spirit of the 100th anniversary and my old friend “the Witness”, I present a portrait of a breed of rider that is becoming increasingly more rare. His home and garage are one and the same. This man never misses a rally or a reason to hit the open road. He has collected so many bikes/parts over the decades that he can literally create a scooter with roots spanning thirty years” Hand signed Canvas Giclee Prints with certificates of authenticity can be ordered directly from the Master at the Gold Dust Casino in Deadwood during the rally, or through his website. David Uhl Studios

Instead of focusing on the machines themselves, as most shows at Sturgis do, this day will be all about the industry’s artistic side. The Dave Perewitz Custom Paint Bike Show will focus on the paint and finishes industry professionals use to achieve those slick custom looks. Dave Perewitz has created some of the industry’s best signature flame jobs. Awards will be given in a variety of categories, including best pearl, best candy, best use of color, best artwork, best graphics, best in show and Perewitz best flames. He tells me that it was quite a challenging piece to compose. Here the story.”In 1912 a young Italian racer named Ralph DePalma led the Indianapolis 500 competition by a huge margin only to be plagued by engine failure with only 3 laps to go. The big grey Mercedes (#4) expired on the last lap, leaving Ralph and his mechanic Rupert Jefffkins as only option pushing the car home. Obviously it made the crowd go wild, not only for Joe Dawson who ultimately won the race (#8), but also because of DePalma incredible persistence and sportsmanship”. David Uhl.
