If not, don’t wonder later why your bike will crank but not start, or at best will start but will ride very roughly. Your carb will for sure have varnish build-up, reason why the fuel delivery system is not working properly. Very few bikers know that fuel stabilizers also provide lubricity and prevent ethanol fuel-accelerated corrosion problems. Personally, I am still surprised that so many that I consider experienced don’t take a simple and cheap measure to protect their rides. Cleaning a carburetor is not necessarily fun …and it’s time lost on the road. Spectro Fuel Conditioner And Stabilizer.

No, it’s not about the controversy of choosing or not to wear a helmet but an exploration of its evolution. Until November 8th at the Harley-Davidson Museum “The history Of Helmets” comes alive through artifacts from the Harley-Davidson Museum Archives.

On October 28 at 7 pm there will be an insightful panel discussion and participants will probably learn that the first motorcycle helmet was reported to have been invented by Gottlieb Daimler in 1885, and at this time not built with speed in mind.

But as people developed their need for speed, motorcycles were made to go faster. Between 1931 and 1953, the American race for the fastest motorcycle was run by two competitors – Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles. As the speed of motorcycles increased, so did the number of accident fatalities. In 1953 Southern California (USC) Professor C.F. “Red” Lombard developed and applied for a patent for a motorcycle helmet designed to absorb the shock of an impact and spread out is energy. Mandatory motorcycle helmet laws or not, manufacturer’s followed Lombard’s lead to improve comfort and safety. Available in assorted colors, get one while they last…And the beauty is that they fit the Biltwell helmets that they carry. And the new ones in Black Megaflake and Brite Silver Megaflake are pretty cool too with a new red contrast stitching and a beefier goggle strap on the back. If you travel the show tour, how often are you setup outside under a tent in a rally? A lot. During a rally, how often do you need to use a laptop computer to check your inventory, your prices, do your on-site bookkeeping …and check my daily posts? All the time. How often do you compute at the office with open windows or at home on your terrace or patio? As much as you can (I live ad work in South Florida). So, a smart guy invented the mosquito repellent USB stick. At $5.69, it’s cheaper than a couple of possibly toxic chemical sprays. When plugged to your computer the powered USB stick emits a sonic repellent frequency. Plug it and Voila, gone the mosquitoes. Warning, this USB stick is so popular that there is a waiting list. Ultra Sonic USB Mosquito Repellent.

I should begin this post by the fine print: “Biltwell helmets are designed for display and novelty purposes only, and should never be worn to operate an actual motorcycle. Simply put, Biltwell helmets do not meet any DOT or other safety standards”. This being said, Biltwell continue to sell a lot of their open face helmets. Is it because they are lightweight and comfortable? Because people like the vintage style chrome strip around the opening? Because their helmets are “one size fits most” thanks to a foam padding inside both soft and compliant and a very flexible outer shell? Because NOS helmets are very expensive and rare? Because of the wide range of solid, metal and new mega flakes (choice of orange burst or root beer) colors? Because they complement perfectly the vintage feel of your bike? Because of the moderate price of $114? Because… Well, you decide. Biltwell Helmets.

Via a company called SkinIt using a state-of-the-art digital printing process you can cover your electronics (phone, laptop, notebook, camera, headphones, etc) with a film skin in patterns suggested by the mother factory. But wait, you can also turn your favorite photos (and it’s not necessary about Harley or motorcycles) into Gear Skins. Easy to apply, easy to remove, as the opposite of a skin tattoo. I admit that the quality is very good, with vibrant colors and a very good fit. But, personally I think that it is a little bit childish… Except, of course, if you cover all your digital gear with my company logo (I will provide the artwork for free). Harley-Davidson Skinit Customizer.

So, like most custom builders I have removed and thrown away more factory horns than I will ever install new aftermarket ones. But if you feel like you need one, at least choose one not destroying too much the look of your bike and louder than your stock one. FYI, a stock horn is pulsing an average of 85 dBs, quite not enough if you want to be heard. These new ones called Mini-Beasts blast 128 dBs to increase your (sense of) safety on the road. A complete line of designs and applications is available for American & Metric Bikes. Go to Tri-Tec/Sales Dimensions.

After 4 years of development and testing, Accel a division of Prestolite Performance, specializing in high quality ignition and electrical components for American made Harley-Davidson motorcycles, is about to release next week the SLM EFI Module. This self-learning technology compensates for changing loads, weather conditions and altitude while you ride. It automatically re-calibrates and optimizes after modifications you made on your bike, such as exhaust pipes, intake, air cleaners, cams, etc.. Objective of this module is also to improve your mileage while increasing power and torque for both stock and modified applications and to reduce emissions.

Installation is just a direct plug-in connection to your factory Throttle Position Sensor, Crank Position Sensor & O2 Sensors. The module is named “Self Learning” because it acts automatically to compensate for changing loads, weather conditions and altitude while you ride. You guessed it, no more need for costly dyno tuning sessions or downloading calibration files to a laptop. The Accel SLM Module will also help your engine run smoother, eliminating the “bang & pop” associated with mis-programmed ECU due to the intake and exhaust modifications you made in your garage or shop. and no need to re-flash the factory ECU; simply plug it in and ride.

Available next week at J&P Cycles (retail clients), Drag Specialties, Motorcycle Storehouse, Zodiac in Europe (dealers). More distributors coming soon. Accel Motorcycle Products.

This intro to let you know that “Wizards Bike Wash” is not only another product promising to let you foam away any grime, oil, brake dust, degrease engine/wheels without damaging your paint/chrome/plastics, but that by buying a 22 oz bottle you can help a charity called “Guide Dogs Of America”. This association is dedicated to its mission to provide guide dogs and instruction of their use, free of charge, to blind and visually impaired men and women from the United States and Canada. Starting June 15th, Wizards will donate $1 to the Guide Dogs of America organization for every bottle of Wizards Bike Wash purchased. So, I just gave you at least one good reason to try this product.

Arai ranks highest, followed by Shoei and Icon. Harley-Davidson helmets rank very well for design/styling and windshield. Time, day, year, temperature…and even when to wake you up. Now, in 2009 it’s time (pun intended) for you to say to your clock what you want it to do for you. This clock has a name- “Moshi“- is very pretty to talk to, but please, no touching: this clock is voice activated. You can make many verbal requests: time and date, temperature, to program the time and alarm, to propose a variety of background sounds to please your ears (waterfall, forest, stream), etc. You don’t need to look at it. You can even stop the alarm right from your bed. Just say, “alarm off” to be certain to be late at work… $50.00. By the way, I am in love with blue lights (when they are not chasing me). Watch the beautiful demo at Moshi Lifestyle. Now, what about a voice activated motorcycle? Yes, it’s possible.

Every builder/manufacturer is selling one. Finned, grooved, smooth, spiked, with a devil head, a Maltese cross, etc, and as many logos & names as the industry counts. The thought of bringing one more ignition cover doesn’t make any sense except that they have always been a top-selling item. So the boys at Biltwell decided to do one with a different twist: the stainless-steel plate on their new points cover is actually an ingenious bottle opener. The alloy backing plate can be mounted horizontally or vertically to fit any bolt location on H-D ignition cones, and the stainless-steel bottle opener can be repositioned accordingly. Available in two colors (black or silver anodizing), and both versions include a polished stainless-steel center plate and all necessary hardware. MSRP is $53. Biltwell Products.

The press release I received states that there is nothing like it. And I believe it. After 3 years of continuous lab and road testing, the people of “Second Face On” have perfected a protective mask for motorcycle riders that prefer not to wear the full helmet. Of course, the idea is to offer protection from the rain, warmth, cold while stopping flying objects like stones and bugs dead in their tracks. So they designed a solid one-piece shatterproof polycarbonate mask that eliminates fluttering and vibration for better visibility and less distortion than looking through a motorcycles windshield at sixty miles an hour. In the making of the mold process, they state that they have perfected the lens area to the quality of a good pair of prescription glasses (number one optical clarity). The aerodynamic design and vented slots create a non-fogging environment to make the mask comfortable to wear. They offer 2 different size masks. One for women, a smaller mask streamed lined to fit the contours of the female face and yet keeping in mind to allow for prescription glasses. The male mask has been designed a little wider and has a little more of a stretched look to allow for the larger face and with the consideration of prescription glasses. They also offer personal art package at a price of $39.95, and winter or comfort package for the chillier weather for $11.95. This comes in precut pieces that stick to the inside of the mask and is made of soft breathable polyester that is safe for the skin. This package is easily removed and can be replaced when it gets colder. Now I have 2 questions. Will you wear one? If yes, how am I going to know it’s you? Second Face On.

A must see. In this Oscar nominated movie, Brad Pitt’s character is seen doing short motorcycle rides on an Indian and Triumph motorcycle and wearing very cool leather jackets (my preferred is the Button Jacket on the right). They are made by Belstaff, a very reputable English company, and if money is not an issue for you (they go from $1205 to $1,995) you can buy online one piece of this very limited edition.
