Oldest Car. Auctioned For $4.6 Million.

It is considered (some will challenge) the oldest car. A De Dion-Bouton named “La Marquise” built in France in 1884 and of course steam powered by the burn of coal, wood and bits of paper. It took about 30 minutes of combustion before there was enough steam to move the car! Maximum speed was 38 miles per hour.

An anonymous buyer bid the amount of 4.6 million during an RM Auction last week in Philadelphia. The price includes a 10% “buyer’s premium” which goes to the auction company. The paid price is twice what was expected…

    That’s a De Dion-Buton “cage”. Yeah that’s right – a 4.6 million dollar stink-pot.

The De Dion-Buton MOTORCYCLE resides in New York. Newburgh. In the V-Twin Museum on Scobie Drive.
A boxer twin – it runs on cognac.
