RE:
"...don’t see any metric type bikes becoming collectible..."

Haven't looked lately, but even 10 years ago a Kawasaki Eddy Lawson replica was in demand and hard to find.

Early 60's Honda 305 Hawks are in demand and not easily found in serviceable shape.

Seems most of the production metric turbo-charged models are holding their price.

As far as collectable, I don't see any metric type bikes becoming collectible...at least in the near furture. (beyond the person who has a sentamental reason for collecting them). Collectable is relative for you if you want a partictular bike and have the $$$. For myself, if I had the money, it would be the American Standards: Harley's, Indian's, and then, English machines starting with the Norton's....
Some might think that narrow minded, but we all have our favorites.

I would say the Honda Rebel or the Suzuki Savage would be the bike of choice for the modern day collector. Get them now while they are cheap.

Reminds me when I passed up a Crocker for 6K in the early 80's. Of course, back then I didn't have the money.

Currently, the used bike market is way down for everyday bikes but the vintage collector bike market is as high as it's ever been. Just proves that the people who've got the money, are still willing to spend it on something their passionate about.

Cyril,
The pleasure is owning and riding a part of motorcycle history.
One thing is evident, the price of such iron is not going down anytime soon.
A good rule of thumb...... If ya REALY want it.... GET IT NOW.

I wanted a Vincent.
Found several (barn fresh) at an Action.
The first one went (as i recall) for $400.
Bid against Araln Ness for the last one.
Mike McQueen whispered "go for it, it's worth it, I'd buy it but I already have a Rappid"
I dropped out at $900 ....... thought it was over priced.
Later that year Mike offered me his rappid for $5k...... another opportunity missed due to sticker shock.

Recently found the original SF auction house list...... couldn't believe the stuff i passed up
I didn't take one bike home (unbelievable)....... :-(
