tepiddeath,
I can't argue the value thing because it is always based on how deep your pockets & needs are. Right now the only rear luggage I can afford would be a "Hello Kitty" backpack, but think of all the folks who drop $5k into a stock bike for chrome ;)
Happy Thanksgiving to all!

good point i didn't think about the small business guy or gal. thanks for bringing that to my attention. but still, for the money you are better off getting a chopped or a king and getting the extra storage room.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

quote"That tour pak is pretty useless unless you are just riding the bike to your office… what the hell is going on with this company???"

And why shouldn't folks with office jobs ride to work like any other rider? Many small business owners need to use laptops for quoting jobs and other stuff, why the hell shouldn't they be able to do it on their bike?

Very possibly true BH. I did carry many a large pizza home in my '79's King Tour Pak, they right down on the bottom mat with one edge slid under the molded in 3 front compartments. Throw your rain gear on top to keep it from running around and off ya go.
I like a tour pak better than saddlebags because you don't have to stomp a leather into it, but it's always a love/hate thing. I was always surprised how much better the bike handled without that big, heavy trunk. (Remember how they just clipped onto the rattle job tubular back rack?) so I can see how the shorty tour packs really do have a use, they just aren't necessarily a good value for the $$$

The "squid" invasion is in full force!

As for knowing that it is going to just bolt right on just because it comes from HD is a very uneducated statement... you must not do your own work, must have the dealership do it for you. Otherwise you would know that not everything bolts up like they say it will, and not all "quick disconnect" items are "quick connect" either! That tour pak is pretty useless unless you are just riding the bike to your office... what the hell is going on with this company???

SCREW HD. LETS RIDE!!!

Black Shadow,

I think most in this industry would agree that we would not be here if not for people like Donnie Smith (Smith Brothers and Fetrow). The list of pioneers in the custom and aftermarket motorcycle industry is a long one so I will not even begin to list all of the people past and present who deserve our respect.

Peace
Joe

These invention discussions as to who copied who from the 90's or 2000 plus years are a bit nearsighted. Just like most designs their initial history is feathered from farther back in time then recent. Hard/fibreglass tail trunks for bikes have been around in all shapes and sizes from the 60's for sure and most likely back to the inital inception of fibreglass.

Vetter, Vixon, Windjammer, early police motorcycles, etc., etc. My first recollections are of BMW's and probably other European bikes and US Police models and Shovelhead scoots. All good all evolving in line with the times.

Anyone can make an object smaller. So, nobody invented anything. At least, with Harley I know for sure that it will install correctly on a Harley bagger with the appropriate brackets..

No offense to Paul Yaffe, Klockwerks or Nasi, but in 1993 Drag Specialties commisioned a custom bagger from Donnie Smith and they chopped the trunk on that one. Don't know if they were the first, but a lot of the industry credits that bike as the start of the custom bagger era.

Still has plenty of space for a rainsuit and leather jacket, and won't be as much of a rudder in crosswinds. I like it.
One thing confuses me; Harley comes out with a shorter version of one of their own designs and they get accused of ripping someone off!!!??? That seems a little harsh.
