Good points about the trucking industry. There are tangential topics surrounding that as well, such as less truck traffic means less congestion and less road/highway repair. (far less tires will be needed)

Not only should cargo should be shipped via train more, but people should be transported via high-speed rail instead of the thousands of regional air trips. There are loads of powerful people with deep pockets ready to stop those types of common sense initiatives.

Electrics applied to motorcycles have a lot potential, but the visual appeal of i-c engines and the lack of mechanical orchestration will be sorely missed....

JMO ,
You state very good facts!! Although the main problem here is in the Teamsters and unions, which in this day and time we have no further use for and should be done away with!! The second problem and I want you to give it some consideration is what it takes to produce that vege-oil and that is WATER and we seem to take the fact that fish huggers are keeping the water out of the valley in California because of a minnow. We have people here that want to take our water reserves and pump them down state to DFW so they can keep watering their yards and have someyhing to drink and cook with along with all the other usual thing like flushing the toliet. Corn takes a hugh amount of WATER to grow. I know.I live in the Texas Panhandle and I see the water sprikler systems run daily 24hrs a day from the time corn is planted until fall when they stop and let it dry up for harvest. I myself would rather have something to drink and walk to the store to buy my food that the trucks and trains must deliver.
                                                                              Thanks; David

Just My Opinion, Those electric trains actually run on Diesel fuel to run those electric motors!!

David; you are right they do have deisel engines that turn the generators that then give power to the electric motors that move the train. Something else I find interesting is that a train can move one hundred semi truck loads for the same cost fuel wise as one single semi-truck can move that single truck load the same distance. The main reason semi-trucks move most loads is that the teamsters union forces the trucking companies into not using rail roads. I have a friend that owns a trucking company and he told me that he had to agree not to use the rail companies to move more than 10% of his companies shipments or he would not get union loads. Now all that being said.
My point was that electric motors have been used for decades, and if we can move a train with electric motors, bikes or cars are a small problem. If the deisel engine that powers the generator is ran using the vege-oil, that they were created to use in the first place, than there would be very little if any effect to the earth, and the vege-oil is a renewable resource that would create many jobs on american farms. The main reason that deisel fuel was used inplace of the vege-oil is that it was more plentiful and cheaper to make than vege-oil. But that has since changed and I believe we will soon see many cars and bikes made that will use vege-oils and electicity. The one thing we all know for sure is that the world will change and adjust as it needs to, just as it has in the past. Fossil fuels will some day be a thing of the past, It may not happen in our life time but our children and grandchildren will be using some other type of fuel. And hopefully it will be a renewable resource made or grown here in the USA

Just My Opinion, Those electric trains actually run on Diesel fuel to run those electric motors!!

Dave Blevins,The people in California are still driving their cars(do they really hate OIL that much?).They Just keep burning that good old Natural Gas to make their electricity. We have plenty of it if we can keep the tree huggers and enviromentalist (who still want to drive their cars and travel in airliners) from preventing us to drill for it.
We do consume alot of energy here in the good Ol' USA but I dont see many people cutting back unless gas prices go to $4 or $5 bucks a gallon.
When Do we learn we can't have everything we want and not pay for it some way or another.
Wind ,Solar, Nuclear Power , we probably need all of these things to power our electricity needs and free up our oil and gas for trucks and cars and bikes for the time being.
Lord help us what would happen if they turned out the lights in Las Vegas every other night?

Some how the smell of O-zone just isn't as "aromatic" as the smell of burning Bean-oil.

I believe in the not so distant future we will be seeing more and more electric powered cars and bikes. Trains have been using electric motors to move along the tracks for some fifty years or more. As technology increases and generators get smaller and more effective there will be no need for batteries other than starting a small micro engine that would turn the small gererator that powers the electric motors. Engines can run on many differant types of fuel. Has anyone else seen the show about the two guys that travel from one coast to the other coast at a zero cost using the cooking oils from McDonalds. That oil burns clean, smells like frys, but burns clean and McDonalds uses so much of that vege-oil that they could provide about 5 % of the needed fuel for this country. Add in the rest of the food chains and you have 10% or more of the needed oils. Here is one more little fact most folks don't know " The diesel engine was origanally designed to burn vege-oil" The only problem with vege-oil is that it thickens if it gets cold so you must heat it before you can use it as fuel. As for the bike great job guys.

Electric vehicles are interesting and watching them develop into advanced machines is also interesting, but they are not to be considered a solution to fossil fuel powered vehicles. And for anyone touting nuclear power as an alternative source for providing electricity, you should understand that uranium (the substance from which nuclear fuels are derived), is also a non-renewable resource, it is believed to exist in enough quantity to provide power for a couple of hundred years and then it is also gone. And it is VERY expensive to use as a power source and leaves highly toxic waste that remains dangerous for thousands of years... even good old California's oil hating ass won't allow any nuclear facilities to be built in the state unless a valid way to dispose of nuclear waste is found. And of course the very real possibility of an accident makes dotting the landscape with nuclear power plants a frightening prospect indeed.
I'm not dogging your bike guys, in fact I like it... and 150 mph is impressive with any powerplant. I just don't see electric vehicles as a valid replacement for fossil fuel vehicles.

Jeff, I've heard of it-it's the thing they refuse to use while we burn coal and natural gas to power "pollution-free" vehicles. Kind of like using methadone to brag you no longer use heroin ;)

I've been experimenting with electric vehicles for a few years now and the one drawback that seems to really make me not like fully electric vehicles is that it takes so long to get the vehicle back into fully operational mode once the batteries are fully depleted.

I prefer the hybrid model that has some kind of auxiliary power source that runs on readily available fuel. This way you don't have to wait a minimum of 15 to 20 minutes to "fill up your tank".

I think the only way at the present time to make fully electric vehicles viable is to have "gas stations"
that can quickly replace your battery pack with a fresh one.

Can they make the thing look like something that is rideable for 150 miles? Geezz do we really another $73,000 bar hopper that no one can here coming? Although its a great ideal and probably great build quality I'm still stuck in the "lets get something 70's and 80's that doesn't break your back to ride" mentality!!!BUILD IT for the people to ride and the people will buy it!!
