Hey guys it is Frankie Serrano here. I just found out about this blog and wanted to give my 2 cents. First – Eddie and I were and remain friends. We continue to talk and I give him a ‘shout out’ on my website in the About Us section. What you all don’t know is that I started several exhaust’s companies between leaving Eddie and starting FSD Exhausts – I was used and robbed by all partners! That is why I am now my OWN partner with MY designs – production and one off pipes alike. I also do ALL of the welding and fabrication which is why I back my products 100% in craftsmanship, quality and performance!
Secondly, If you are comparing my Hotrod Ripped to the D3’s on Eddie’s website you should know these are his “NEW” exhausts – so who came out before who! And if you are talking about the D2’s there are major differences for example my pipes which I re-designed after getting robbed by an ex-partner who is still selling them though they are my designs 3 years ago are 4-stepped!
Go to my website and you will see just a small sample of the one-off exhausts I have done along with my production pipes and new exhausts including the 2 Nasty and Fuck Off and within the next week you will see additional new designs that I will be coming to the market with.
This industry is what it is – I am just a guy with a small shop that has a passion for designing and fabricating exhausts and enjoy wowing and making my customers happy with the product they purchased!
Keep it real!

JMO, Mikeout,

Every employee that has ever worked for me, with any company I have ever owned, has executed a Non Compete-Non Disclosure Confidentiality Agreement or they are not hired.

Likewise, over the years I have learned the hard way that it is as important to have any possible outside manufacturing style vendors execute the same documents before any drawings or designs are shared or discussed. Again, if the vendor balks at signing the agreement you can bet your last dollar this person intents to screw you …. no sign, no business from me …. No exceptions!

JMO ..... Once again I have to agree with you ...... this is getting to be old! Damn!

OK, My question to everybody is what if the employee has the Idea for the pipe or product, and the owner of the company says yea, yea, lets build’em and I’ll put MY name on them.So the so called builder just made bank off the employees idea.

MIKEOUT; It is true that a lot of builders use their employees for ideas but so does Ford,GMC and almost all businesses. If an employee helps to create a product it belongs to the business owner. The only exeption would be if the employee created it out side of the workplace, using his own tools ,materials and ideas. It sounds like you think that would be unfair but remember when the employee has a bad idea and it cost the business money the employee does not lose his pay check. But the business owner does, is that fair? And lets not forget that it is the semi-famous builders name that sells these parts if you called them Joe Blows X part nobody would want to buy them. It is putting the builders name and reputation on the parts that make them desirable. If you don't believe me just try and make a part and sell it. Better yet buy 10000 t-shirts and put your name on them and see how many sell at bike week. OCC sells those t-shirts by the thousands. If the name does not make a difference than just try to sell shirts with your name on them. Branding is a huge factor that someone with little or no business experiance understands or appreciates but trust me it is just as important as the part it self. Don't get this twisted I don't think that it is fair for a company to steal from their employees,If an employee has a great idea and brings it to the owner and that part is made as a result they should share in the profits. But I don't think that would be the case if the employee was being paid for those ideas. And if an employee leaves a company and takes ideas that were created in that company that could be stealing. Most large companies have their employees sign a agreement that states if they leave the company, they leave with out taking any knowlaged gained by working for that company. Those agreements are usually called no-compete contracts and usually have a set time period such as 2 years from the time you leave their employ. After the time period has passed you can do as you wish. I don't know anything about the pipes and who or how they are marketed that would be a question for the two guys selling the same design not me, I am just trying to help you understand how employees do help create, but those employees are not being taken advantage of just because the owner makes more money if an idea works.

A lot of the so called builders hire the people to do the work for them, then jump in front of the camera and say look what I built. The public has no idea what this industry is all about. It's all about how one person can screw over another person for a F...N nickel.

So, I have a question: At what point does copying ideas from another builder become unacceptable?

Cos as far as I can work out 95% of the parts and bikes out there are so very similar to each other anyway. Someone comes out with new idea or more usually a tweak or refinement to an old look, and you all (OK, most of you) browse the pics or check the bike out at a show and take this or that element for your next design, especially if they are popular with the buying public. Bike building fashion seems to be very fad centric. There is only so much you can do to be different on a bike anyways. Like these pipes, OK, they do look the same and the timing seems odd, but I have a neighbor who has a set of (home made or bought i have no idea) pipes that also look almost identical. His are 4 or 5 years old. older than the ET design.

Hey All,

I think there has been questions raised here that only ET of Frankie can answer. Has anyone being so critical herein given any thought that maybe ET has given Frankie a license to produce these pipes? Possibly these pipes were Frankie’s to begin with and he may have granted ET permission to be a licensee???? Who knows, certainly not me and most certainly not anyone else on this blog either. What do you say we let Eddie and Frankie figure this out?

Just my 2 cents worth.

Over & Out,

Jeff

Johnny. I acknowledge that at time of publication I didn't know the "story" behind these pipes. If there is controversy, as you can see in the comments above, both parties are free to express their points of view. It's what my Blog is all about. My position is of course to buy this exhaust system from the original designer, whoever he is.

With all due respect to Frank and Eddie varations of drag racer pipes have been around forever, but as good as they look they might be called ammunition pipes as when you rip thru the streets at decibels height your just giving ammunition to those that are voting sound out of the motorcycle scene.
