Hello Everyone; Since Grayhawk hasn't opined I will. I bought a ticket for a chance on a St. Judes Home raffle ($100.)the home valued at $350,000. This is getting back to the Tax responsibility. It clearly states on their website that you must settle all Taxes to the IRS over $5000. before they will hand over ownership of the winnings, which is considered income. So if you win this bike you'll be paying IRS income tax on an extra $30,000 this year on your taxes.
Sure it's worth it and I'll be buying tickets Especially to help out our wounded Veterans and I Hope you will also!!!

Howard,

Any motorcycle we ever built for a charity we covered the cost of the bike ourself. We never had anyone give us a dime to build the bikes ...... ever.

We have built and DONATED 6 motorcycles over the past 10 years including, however not limited to, the Ronald McDonald House Charities Bike, The Kids & Chrome Bike, Childrens Lighthouse Bike(s) (2 of those), 100 Club Bike and the NRA Bike .... Total money raised for the combined charities: $ 712,359.00 .....

Over & Out,

Jeff

It takes money to make money........even when it comes to charities. What's even better is that President Obama is reducing the tax benefit of charitable donations so wealthy people will be donating a lot less in the future.

So, the way this works is, the builder gets paid for the bike build, and then the charity hopes to raise monies to cover that cost first, then the rest goes to charity? Can't the builder just "writeoff" his expenses on tax deductions, instead? This to me would give the charity more profits towards the donations?

Jeff,
The entire cost of the bike was covered by SBS Maritime Consultants, so 100% of the donations will go to the cause.

Is 100% of the proceeds of the raffle going to the fund or is this one of those baffles that "after the cost of the bike is covered" the balance of the proceeds goes to the hospital fund?
