Hopefully there will be people who will learn from his mistake and never get behind the wheel of a car after drinking, but lets face it, it will happen time and time again! He has started a new life with his new wife and hopefully he will continue to help others like I know he has. And I hope he will finally be able to sit back in jail and take a deep breath and know that this is over and he is able to sleep for the first time in 3 years. I know a totally different man, a funny and sweet hearted man, who wouldn't hurt anyone!! I hope he can see the light now that the wrong he has done is now righted. Everyone should pay for their mistakes and he is now.......

Stacey, I believe you are telling the truth about Billy. And yes, I have no doubt living with what happened is not anything I would want to deal with everyday. We certainly have all done things we should not have done, and some of the "mistakes" we can fix, some we cannot. This is obviously one he cannot. I hope he uses this time in prison to reflect, figure out what to do with the rest of his life, and make the necessary changes so that another family, or Billy, does not have to feel this kind of pain again due to his actions.

Billy has to live with this for the rest of his life, and believe me he is living the hell everyday! He is a wonderful person and is not what you all think he is the public man is not him, the private man is who you don't know and are judging and that man is so different from his public image. He is remorseful and is sorry for what he did that night. But lets all remember we are not without faults and we all have done things we should not have done......

I say it was justice. Billy was impared way beyond the legal limit, speeding, and made an improper pass and took a man's life. Billy himself has said he takes responsiblity for his actions and is ready to serve the time. If it was your brother or son Great Dane, I suspect you might want him to serve time for taking his life. I believe if you choose to get behind the wheel while you are drunk and kill someone, there is punishment due. I'm sure the family's of the other victims you mentioned were outraged, as I would be. I'm glad the Moorelock family doesn't have to feel their outrage. Billy's time in prison will not bring their loved one back, but it's maybe some justice.

This coin defiantly has two sides.

Heads;
We have all seen bikers killed and judges letting the "killer" off with a slap on the wrist and been mad as hell about it. It happens everyday.
Judges seem to have it in the back of their minds, 'if he wasn't riding a motorcycle he wouldn't have died' and/ or their before the grace of God go I.
EVERYONE has been or will be in an accident at least once in their life.
Two years ago I pulled my car out in front of a another car doing 60mph, Both cars were totaled. I was knocked unconscious and broke out 2 teeth.
The guy I pulled out in front of? His airbag deployed and he walked away without a scratch.
Had he been on a motorcycle, I would have killed him.

A four term governor of South Dakota and a member of the US House of Representatives who ran a stop sign and killed motorcyclist, got 100 days.
A Kentucky Legislator killed a biker, got out of his car to look at him, got back in his car and left the scene of a fatal accident. Witnesses ID'd him.
The KY state police didn't even go to his house until he had 6 hours to sober up. The man never served a day in jail. Never lost his seat.
He did have a Highway named after HIM, after he passes away.

We Motorcyclist have long fought for Justus. After all, if some one killed a child walking down the street. they would get 1 to 3 years.

Tails;

Being a bike builder with long hair people assume the worst. He did not have a history of DUI's or of drug use. He DID have two collage degrees.
Billy Lane did not pull a gun and shoot someone in a deal gone bad.
The 7000# Dodge truck we was driving hit a 600# Yamaha and killed the rider.
Every time it is cage vs. bike the bike comes up short and it cost the Insurance industry a lot of money.
That is why Insurance industry has been trying to get motorcycles off the road for the past 30 years.

Billy Lane got six years for an accident.
Billy Lane got six years because he is Billy Lane.

That's not justice.

Ray I am not seeing "hate" here. I think people just want the law applied fairly to "all". Not a different set of standards for the so called " rich and famous". I think we all got a belly full of that with O.J. You are right, Billy made a "huge" mistake, and it cost a man his life. On the 14th we will see if the penalty fits the crime. You mention "this can happen to anyone", and that's true, but everyone needs to remember, "if you can't do the time, don't do the crime".

My goodness, what a bunch of judgmental hating little beeotches we have on here. Billy made a huge mistake that day. Yes he chose to drink and he was impaired right? Ok then, what is the first thing that happens when you are intoxicated? Lack of judgment perhaps? Wow!!! What a revelation...... So, how many true beer drinking asskicking TRUE bikers do we have on here? I hope the answer is, not many. Ok.....how many cpa's, attorneys, secretaries, nurses doctors, cops, or plumbers for that matter do we have on here who could give a crap about motercycles in general but go to their friday after work "happy hour" for a few tata's? Ahhhhhhh, I bet that is most of you. Well take a good look at your home, fancy cars, toys, and your career. Because maybe your next. And don't think for one minute it can't and won't happen to you. Guys, all it takes is a lapse of judgment or simply your to drunk to realize what the consequenses to your actions will be. Cut Billy a break, this guy truly is a great human being (yes i do know him personnaly for many years)that has done more for veterans and for kids in general than most people in his industry or otherwise. HE MADE A MISTAKE as many of do. Except, Billy lives with the pain of killing another human being for the rest of his life. Some of you make it sound like he doesn't give a crap about what happened and has no remorse. If you think that, man you are so so wrong. He is living in a hell that I would not wish on anyone. But may God bless you all and keep a watchful eye on you the next time you are at your happy hour or at cocktails at the bosses house.

It's quite ironic and probably an even bigger blow that Billy was involved with another cyclist.

But lets face it. Billy will NEVER recover from this. Even if he's out in 30 days.

He'll walk around his entire life and everybody will always look at him as the guy who killed another motorcyclist in a DUI accident. His career is over and so is his legend as an upcoming bike builder.

That my friend is torture and punishment that will never stop.

He wen't from being a motorcycle god and chick magnet to a guy that can't even pick up a gallon of milk w/o wonder what people are saying about him.

It's easier if you're just a regular guy. But it you're all over TV and millions of people know your name - there's no way out of that. It's hell on earth and will be until his time comes as well.

Billy made a mistake. I know he feels incredibly bad for this mistake. But, he was and still is a good guy. I hope he and the Morelocks find peace in their lives. I hope Billy finds a way to make these events into a positive. He is a talented bike builder and a good person. He has never denied what he did was wrong. Good luck brother.

OMG, poor Billy, poor Billy, poor Billy.

I wonder what would happen if I got drunk, got into my truck, drove down the road, passed three cars, and hit & killed a guy on a moped three yes ago????

Oh I know, my ass would be in jail right now for a long time.

I am a Billy Lane fan, but come on, justice is justice. And his judgement should fit the crime. That's nothing against Billy, I thought the day of the showing grace to people with money was over. Just give Billy what is fair and what the law requires.

Before any of you get to carried away with Billy Lane & what he should or shouldn't get..........

Let's all just keep in mind now, NFL Receiver Donte Stallworth. He did the very same thing. While he did not kill someone on a scooter, so you all can scream he killed a brother, he did kill someone while he was driving drunk.

He also was in Florida when this happened. He also plead down from DUI Manslaughter to Vehicular Manslaughter.

He got 30 DAYS...THIRTY DAYS in jail.

So there you go. This is your Florida law. Precident has now been set, so if Billy does 1 month, none of you can bitch.

Like someone on an NFL forum said, good thing he didn't run over one of Micheal Vick's dogs because then he'd be sitting for years.

I am sure once the sentencing happens, Billy will speak & do the accepting of this everyone is so mad he hasn't done already.

I will be pissed now if he gets more then 30 days because I'm tired of Pro Athletes getting let off of crimes. Besides this one, St. Louis Rams Leonard Little was drunk & killed a woman. He got 2 weeks in jail & then 5 years probation. There was also the little fact that the conviction & felony got erased from his record after his probation was up. The day after he was done with probation, he was arrested for Drunk Driving & they couldn't use his past charge agaist him because it was erased from his record.

Lane's lawyer needs to bring this case to court with him for the sentencing.

Here's Stallworth's story

"MIAMI -- Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte' Stallworth took full responsibility for killing a pedestrian while driving drunk in Florida and began serving a 30-day jail sentence Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter.

Stallworth also reached a confidential financial settlement to avoid a potential lawsuit from the family of 59-year-old Mario Reyes, according to Stallworth's attorney, Christopher Lyons. Reyes was struck and killed March 14 by Stallworth, who was driving his black 2005 Bentley after a night drinking at a swanky hotel bar.

A source told ESPN's Kelly Naqi that while the financial terms of the settlement with the family have not been disclosed, Stallworth was covered by two insurance policies: a car insurance policy and a $5 million umbrella policy.

Stallworth, 28, told Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Dennis Murphy that he hopes to get involved in drunken-driving education programs.

"I accept full responsibility for this horrible tragedy," said Stallworth, who was accompanied at the hearing by his parents, siblings and other supporters. "I will bear this burden for the rest of my life."

Donte' Stallworth, accompanied by his lawyer, Christopher Lyons, has a lifetime suspension from holding a driver's license, and must serve two years' house arrest and eight years on probation.

Stallworth faced 15 years in prison. According to the plea agreement, Stallworth needs to serve only 24 days of his 30-day sentence. Murphy agreed to give Stallworth credit for the one day he already served, April 2, which was the day of his arrest and booking. In addition, Stallworth received an additional five days of credit because of a Florida state statute stating anyone who is sentenced to 30 days (besides civil, contempt, drug treatment and house arrest cases) automatically gets five days' credit time served for every 30 days, spokesperson Janelle Hall of the Miami Dade County Corrections Department told Naqi.

After his release from jail, Stallworth must serve two years of house arrest and spend eight years on probation.

Lyons said the plea agreement will allow Stallworth to resume his football career.

The Akron Beacon Journal reported that according to an NFL source, commissioner Roger Goodell is expected to discipline Stallworth before the Browns start training camp July 31.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league is reviewing the matter for possible disciplinary action. Stallworth could face suspension without pay for some games this year.

The Browns released a statement Tuesday evening, saying "The Browns are very conscious of the seriousness of the charges to which Donte' Stallworth plead guilty to today. We are continuing to evaluate the situation and will make the decisions that we believe are in the best interest of the Cleveland Browns."

Stallworth must also undergo drug and alcohol testing, will have a lifetime driver's license suspension and must perform 1,000 hours of community service. Lyons said after five years, Stallworth could win approval for limited driving for reasons such as employment.

Lyons noted that Stallworth stopped immediately after the accident, called 911 and submitted to roadside alcohol testing despite spending most of the night drinking at a Miami Beach hotel.

"He acted like a man," Lyons said. "He remained at the scene. He cooperated fully."

Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle cited Stallworth's lack of previous criminal record, cooperation with police and willingness to accept responsibility as factors in the plea deal. Rundle also said the Reyes family -- particularly the victim's 15-year-old daughter -- wanted the case resolved to avoid any more pain.

"For all of these reasons, a just resolution of this case has been reached," Rundle said.

None of the Reyes family attended the hearing. Their attorney, Rodolfo Suarez, read a statement saying the family wants to "bring closure to this emotional and tragic event." Suarez was not immediately available to comment after the hearing.

After Stallworth spent the night drinking at a bar in Miami Beach's Fountainebleau hotel, police said he hit Reyes, a construction crane operator who was rushing to catch a bus after finishing his shift at about 7:15 a.m.

Stallworth told police he flashed his lights in an attempt to warn Reyes, who was not in a crosswalk when he was struck.

Stallworth had a blood-alcohol level of .126 after the crash, well above Florida's .08 limit. Stallworth stopped after the crash and immediately told officers he had hit Reyes. Police estimated Stallworth was driving about 50 mph in a 40 mph zone.

Stallworth signed a seven-year, $35 million contract with the Browns before last season but was injured much of the year. The California native and University of Tennessee college star also has played in the NFL for the New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints.

The night before the crash, Stallworth earned a $4.5 million roster bonus from the Browns.

David Cornwell, a Stallworth attorney handling the NFL situation, said he has kept top league officials apprised of the case.

"Whenever it is appropriate to do so, we are prepared to discuss the circumstances under which Donte' will resume his career," Cornwell said."

Explanation. My answer I stand by. I wish Billy all the best. He must pay for what he did under Fla. law. 9 years is much but a lot better than 15 years. Life without a drivers licence, I don't like. One has to work. A very restricted one I can see. If all I've read about what the Morelock family is true then I hope the judge considers it. What a humble family they are. But I do see no time served a mockery of Fla. law. And yes Rogue should Billy reach out to and ask God, God will forgive him.

I wonder what the outcome would have been had Billy been required to use a public defender. In the US justice is dispensed according to the size of your bankroll. It may have cost Billy every dollar he had, but that's the price he's willing to pay to stay out of prison for a few years. He's paid a high price, but was it equal to the price paid by the Morelock family?
I wonder what the outcome will be in the case of the 15 year old that T-boned Top Fuel motorcycle racer Griz Robinson in Pueblo, Co. a few weeks ago? Does he deserve the same defense that Billy got?
In both cases a family needlessly lost a husband, father, brother, son.

Dead and Gone

I do not know where you got your information about the DUIs But I believe you are wrong.
Also the passing over other cars. That charge was dropped because under Florida Law the pass was started in a legal passing zone and that is why the prosecutor dropped those charges a long time ago.
Billy has taken responsibility for his action in a lawful manner. Maybe not to your liking But he has in the correct manner allowed him by law.

Bigger Things to Waste Your Breath On

Your statement - Doc, sure we’ve all had a couple and then hit the road -

So you got luck when driving under the infulence. You would be talking out the other side of your mouth if you were in his position and it sounds like you are upset more that Billy has the money for a good attorney and you do not about this.

Billy has been doing everything that he is expected to do as well as making amends with the Morelock family and hopefully with himself when this is over and yes some where down the road he will also have to answer to God.
I am sure God will forgive him as has the Morelock family.

Your statement – Doc, sure we’ve all had a couple and then hit the road –

So you got luck when driving under the infulence. You would be talking out the other side of your mouth if you were in his position and it sounds like you are upset more that Billy has the money for a good attorney and you do not about this.

Billy has been doing everything that he is expected to do as well as making amends with the Morelock family and hopefully with himself when this is over and yes some where down the road he will also have to answer to God.
I am sure God will forgive him as has the Morelock family.

Just Some Dude
Then you should have No Problem if the Morelock family decides on what punishment Billy gets as it was part of their family

I think the court should take into consideration what the Morelock family would like to happen.
Here is what the family had to say in the Florida Today newspaper on 6/10/09

The victim’s brother, Byron Morelock, did not attend Tuesday’s hearing, but said he and his son, Sean, plan to speak at Lane’s sentencing.

He declined to say what type of punishment he thinks Lane should receive, but stressed that he wanted whatever it is to use Lane’s celebrity to raise money for charity in his brother’s name and benefit others.

“Let’s do something positive,” Morelock said. “In my heart I know that this is what my dear brother Gerry would have wanted.”
