The 3 wheeler won't directly replace either a Corvette or a Hayabusa, but it does have its own mix of capabilities that make it an excellent vehicle. Unless you only plan to use it like Jim says, in which case the Corvete and Hayabusas would also just be cute toys. I use my bikes like serious machines and could use a trike. The T-Rex: • It can't compete performance wise with a similar engine in a 2-wheeled sportbike because the chassis is twice as heavy. • It can't compete performance wise with a similar power/weight lightweight 4-wheeler like a Lotus 7 / Chaterham because it can't hook up or corner as well with just one rear wheel, as compared 2 drive wheels in back on a car.. As for the Can-Am Spyder which is a sit up, motorcycle style 3-wheeler: • The direct handlebar steering of 2 front car wheels is too heavy without a car type rack and pinion gear ratio to make turning easy (imaging the gyroscopic force of turning 2 heavy spinning car wheels with no leverage). • But the big drawback on the Can-Am is the rider/driver sitting straight up like on a bike, but no leaning in corners, having to fighting the G-force in cornering by hanging onto the handlebars to not get pitched off, all while tracking a line in a corner and controling the throttle. You are only comfortable /safe cornering the Can-Am up to about 0.50 G. Any production sportbike or sports car can blow by you in a corner at 1.0 G - twice the speed. • And if you flipped the thing in a corner it probably would kill you. For comparrison... • My 2-wheel Ducati 1098R at 370 lb / 190hp does 9.5 sec 1/4 mile and tops out at 200 mph. • My 4-wheel Corvette Z06 modified at 3,000 lb / 640 hp does 10.5 sec 1/4 mile and tops out a 240 mph. 3 wheelers are cute toys to attraction attention from people who don't know any better better. That makes more sense. Good to hear as well, because those things are impressive. My customer's has the ZX-14 engine in it and he's personally had it up to 160! When I test drove it after servicing it, people were following me on the interstate taking pics with their camera phones. Craziness. Gotcha. That makes more sense. I was surprised to find out it was not a T-Rex. This company in Arizona has a different bodystyle and converts various engines into their lineup. They use a Hayabusa , honda, v-twin, engines and have a cobalt supercharged engine (claimed 250HP)for these things. Of course I asked them the price on these, knowing that the T-rex is not a cheap expense. They just came back from the S.E.M.A. show in Vegas and were selling them in kit form at 19k up to 40k for a turn key, customer optioned model. What I liked about it was the aggressive styling, option packages, and a model that will be fully enclosed, ( with gull wing type doors. I think I'd like the feeling of something next to me, instead of open space. It was called a Venom. I thought I saw one of these at a local bike -car show in Arizona.
