Rodent – i was down the West side today and saw the Intrepid back in its rightful place…very cool, seems they did a really nice job restoring the boat and the dock from outside the fence. Running that show was alot of work but a really good time, I need to put some pics of the Gotham show on my site some day, i got some good ones.

its the only time I ever saw NYC bikers wait in line, patiently for up to 2hours to get to pay $20 to see a bike show…. that was a special show in a special venue…. good times!!

Now that the Intrepid Is back at it’s Mahattan dock lets have a build off on the flight deck and the losers get the deep six.. Much better than on a rally on a cruise ship, what crap! road races on the poop deck!

The positive side is when it’s on TV and in front of the world it helps fuel our industry and highlights some builders talents. Our industry has suffered from less TV exposure. I’d say the more exposure the better for everyone.

Toph – thanks for the thoughtful response. For sure there is a benefit to the industry – wouldn’t argue it, do I like it personally, hell no, I feel it makes a mockery out of something that is private and important to me.

I think TV for the VTwin business is like the whippets (cheep nitrous for a quick get-high for those who dont know) of days gone by.

Yeah – you get a good blast, a good rush (the cash and kudos come rolling in) – but 10sec later youre standing there, with a headache wondering whats what.

Yes it felt good for the moment, but there is no benefit long term, you might even be hurting yourself and for what – a quick blast?

just curious cheesy, but where can i find the real deal bikes and parts you make?

how relevant is rousch’s support of oreo cookies, macaroni and cheese, and coke among the dozens of other consumer goodies plastered on his cars and shirts?

i fail to see beyond your whining for the sake of whining.

i’d argue that tv shows have pumped more money into the industry and the builders that could and would be barely scraping by than have actually been hurt by it. bottom line is, make something cool and affordable to the target demographic. lose the arrogance.

steve: i don’t watch any of the shows, but i think it does help with the public’s desire to get a bike, buy some cool parts, even just buy a necklace. it all helps to pay the bills, keeps the doors open.

looking at the CC website, i see all of the builders are dedicated, talented guys. i know all of them and they’re certainly not in this business to make the quick and easy buck. they love bikes, they love the people, they love the freedom to be doing what they love to do. i also know most of them aren’t making millions doing this. most have been around for a while and likely will be here in the future.

Yeah…and that goes for the Love Hate jewelry and OCC cologne. Enough of the bullshit, lets get back to focusing on bikes and parts…not trying to look and smell like bikers. We are beginning to make a joke out of this industry. Last I heard I don’t believe Jack Roush or John Lingenfelter has a line of cologne out. They are doing things that are actually relevant to their industry and not flooding it with bullshit. “Yeah…I’m a professional bike builder and here is my line of cologne, T-shirts and jewelry.” Give me a freekin break. They are ruining it even more than it has been. They are as bad as the fly-by-nighters, possibly worse.

I am tired of “bike building competitions” – this is not the arena for competition in my opinion, forced schedules, stress and drama does not make for a good bike, or an entertaining viewing experience….IMSHO

As an enthusiast community I wish we’d grow out of this phase of development already….
