Call it a gay or whatever. Had a chance to Demo Ride Spyder today along with 6 of my buddies who ride Harley. At the light, 3 of us decided to do a little racing and the Spyder outgunned both Harley (1800cc and 1854cc) without even having to change to 2nd gear. The 1800cc was able to catch up but every time it changed gear, it fell behind.. All of us agreed that for the price and its performance.. it is really a good deal. It has temp gauge, fuel gauge, gear info, etc. with a big fuel tank at 6.6gal. Needless to say, we are impressed and in disbelief of what we saw today. It was an enjoyable day for us to ride out together.

Funny that people would bring up a waiting list for the Spyder & how they can't keep up.

Seems to me that was when Harley was at it's best. When they had their 3 year waiting list for a new bike. Then they made the mistake of ramping up production & getting financing so everyone who wanted a Harley could buy one. It was nice for a few years, but that is where they got into trouble. Everyone has one & people don't just keep trading them in every year like they used to.

It's time for Harley to go back to the 90's & scale back.

I'm sure we'll start seeing the Harley Snowmobile again. Maybe they should just start production the Harley F-250 truck. Ford isn't doing to well anymore.

I have it on good authority that Harley-Davidson have purchased a small Mid-West company that makes scooters (gophers) for the elderly to still have mobility. Thus, a their demographic ages even further, the Motor Company will be well placed to keep their customers riding the bar and shield. Personally, I can't wait to see the CVO gopher which spy cameras have suggested is already being tested in Montana Walmart car parks by none other than Willie G. Flame paint is standard;ape hangers an option.

This is another way for Harley to expand their market and tap into new buyers as the 3 wheeler market is a growing sector. It's a smart move not only for new buyers but also for the aging population of riders. Anything that gets people out of 4 wheel cages and into our sport is a good thing for our industry.

Fellas,

I think your all missing the point. Harley Davidson loyalists already own an HD product. HD is trying to attract new buyers to their brand, the same brand which by the way will wither on the vine, waiting for those same loyal HD owners to come in and trade their old bikes for a slightly updated versions. The future of the motorcycle industry is all about niche markets like the TRI-ROD, its good to see that the Motor Company gets it, even if Harley Fans, Faithful, Riders, an Enthusiasts don't!

Full fledged tilting motorcycles (instead of the MP3 Scooter) have an appeal when you stop and consider off road and even snow riding.

Check this out:

http://www.brudelitech.com/index.htm

I'd like to see HD put the Revolution engine in a sport tourer chassis. There's not many sport tourers on the market that have a v-twin engine and even less that are stylish.

Back in 1913, Harley came out with a front-end three wheeler called the forecar delivery van that could be fitted with a big box or basket on the frame over the front wheels. It was aimed more at small commercial delivery markets like florists, ice cream vendors, etc. It actually did fairly well at the time, but was obviously not a cruising or sport machine. I guess you could have stashed your boyfriend or girlfriend in a basket on the front, though.
