I'd have to agree with Chopperdave, i'd still think they would have better it off with any 1930's or 40's "WL's" or "UL's", coz mind you, remember the 1991 movie "Born to Ride" with John Stamos?, they did pretty awsome stunt riding on those bikes too, well besides them camo it when the jump scene i bet they used a dirt bike for it...cuz it's impossible to jump a hardtail.

I just saw the film, and the first time you saw the bike, you didn't think about it.--so I guess they did all they could within the parameters of using a new Harley..by the second time you saw the bike,(when he turns around on the train platform) the "suspension of disbelief" is gone, They swapped out the handle bars for some oddball part, but they left the front brake cylinder attached, Just about the time you notice this, you start looking at the primary, and realize that is wrong, And, of course, your eyes start to seek out what engine is being used....The action moves fast, so most civilians won't even notice...it would have been better if they put the kid on a Hummer, and had Jones save the day on a WLA or a K....Then they could ride to Chico together as like a male bonding thing ...in search of the long lost $2 drink special...and they would find it in Chico....WE NEED A REWRITE.!!!!

I built the bikes for the film. Because of product placement deals, we had to use new bikes. I originally wanted to use new short stroke Knuckle motors. The bikes had to do all kinds of crazy stunts. when you see the film, you'll be shocked. The stunt rider Lee Morrison has got to be one of the best riders I've ever met.The movie is going to be great.

Geez, it's a movie... you can't expect (in a movie of this type), a movie company to go to the trouble and expense to find and use actual "period correct" bikes for filming just to satisfy us in the industry that can recognize the real mccoy.
It is as unecessary as finding a man that can actually fly to play in a Superman movie. If you want to see a movie with old bikes in it, I suggest "The Wild One".

I am not sure that it was product placement. I work outside the train station they filmed certain parts of the film, including some motorcycles stunt scenes. All of the bikes were dressed-up and modified brand new harleys. Several had been done up to look like Indians, obviously some had be made to look like old harleys. From watching them use and abuse these bikes during filming, as well as the risk to the riders and cast that existing in the riding they were doing (riding at speed through a croud on a train platform) it became clear to me that (1) you would be a fool to attempt what they were doing on a period correct bike (with its 50 year old brakes) and (2) you would be a bigger fool to abuse a collector bike like that.

That said, they could have done a much better job with making the new bikes looking old.

You would think movie makers would finally realize that peopel don't want to see fake shit.

I saw a preview for that and everything looked period correct, until i saw a softail springer in it.

I don't care how customized it is, its not a period bike, therefore I shouldn't be in a "period" movie.

There are plenty of WLA's out there they could have used. in my eyes it just makes the movie people look stupid and think that they believe the public is stupid, coz "Hey, they will think its old!"

Those assholes

I started riding motorcycles(Norton) after watching Steve McQueen stealing a Triumph from the Nazis and chasing himself around the fields of Germany in "The Great Escape", the finest motorcycle sequence ever filmed. (see it on You Tube) I didn't know for years that Bud Ekins made the big jump.
Indian Jones might influence youg bikers but HD is stupid to give the tickets to dealers.
They should pass them out in schools to inpressionable kids....like tobbaco companies do.
